Evelyn Mae Anderson of Berlin, NJ went home to be with the Lord on Thursday, May 10, 2012. She was born on May 24, 1923 to the late Emma Mae Washington and Martin L. Washington in York, PA. She is a product of the York Pennsylvania School System.
She married William Polite, Sr. and from that union was born her only son William Polite, Jr. who everyone lovingly knew as “Billy”. Her mother often told the story that they all joined the Church of God in Christ in York, PA and there is where her training and raising began in church. At six years old she and her sister “Honey” received their first tambourines and as they grew older they taught themselves to play the piano. Elder Clarence Hammond, Sr. was pastor. As young women in the Lord they started a gospel singing group of eight women called the Trailblazers.
In the late 1940’s she moved to Philadelphia to work as a seamstress. While living in West Philly she met Mother Hooker and was led to visit Faith Holy Temple COGIC under the anointed leadership of Elder B. T. Morris and thereby joining. Evelyn served at Faith Holy Temple continually Elder H. N. Neal and presently under Elder Shelton Neal. Her faithfulness to the work of the Lord has been evident in her consistent, dedicated and devoted relationship with Jesus Christ.
On March 24, 1950, she met and married the love of her life Elmer L. Anderson who she lovingly called “Daddy”. They served Faith Holy Temple as musicians and faithful workers. After the passing of her beloved husband in 1963 she continued a life style of fasting and praying in her submission to God. She served in such capacities as: Sunday School teacher, Sunday School Superintendent, Pastor’s Aide, both local and district Purity Class President, Sunshine Band President of the New Jersey First Jurisdiction, a member of the Missionary Board and Mother’s Board and other departments of the church.
Her favorite scripture was Psalms 2:4. "One thing have I desired of the Lord, that will I seek after; that I may dwell in the house of the Lord all the days of my life, to behold the beauty of the Lord, and to enquire in his temple".
She leaves to grieve her lost a host of nieces and nephews, grandchildren, and great grandchildren.
