Arvey Lee
Dixon, Sr
February 9, 1940 – July 7, 2025
Arvey Lee Dixon, Sr. was born to the late Clarence and Catherine (Hinmon) Dixon, Sr. on February 9, 1940, in Mardela Springs, MD. The family relocated to Cedarville, NJ, when he was young and he was educated in the public school system. Arvey gave his life to the Lord at 12 years old and reaffirmed his faith in recent time. He departed this life on the afternoon of July 7, 2025, surrounded by his loving family at his home in Gouldtown, NJ.
Arvey was always family-oriented. Growing up, he helped care for his younger siblings. On August 12, 1961, he married the love of his life, the late Adaline (Loatman) Dixon and started his family legacy with the birth of four children and he adopted and raised two of his granddaughters as his own. Arvey drove tractor-trailer until 2010, and established A.D. Trucking. He worked very hard to provide a comfortable life for his family.
Arvey will be remembered as a great man. He was affectionately known as "Pop-Pop" to his grandchildren and spoiled them with "everything a poor kid could ever ask for". He loved his family and enjoyed spending time with them. He would be on the floor playing with his great-grandchildren, traveling with his grandkids or watching TV with his children. He enjoyed crossword puzzles and talking about the old days. In his younger age, he loved motorcycles, trucks and cars.
He will be forever missed by his four children, Arvey (Maryanne) Dixon, Jr., Anthony (Pamela) Dixon, Wanda (Kevin) Jones, Patricia Dixon; his nine grandchildren, Dion Dixon, Tyesha Burks, Jon Burks, LaKesha Johnson, Taneshia Dixon, Jamar Dixon, Sr., Ashton Dixon, Sr., Sean Burks, LaKeya Dixon; fourteen great-grandchildren Jamar Dixon, Jr., Darnel Williams, Jr., Jamir Dixon, Zha'Mya Cox, Jahmani Dixon, LaKayla Johnson, Tevon Johnson, Jr., Tavon Johnson, Ashton Dixon, Jr, Sofia Burks, Laila Bowden, Zoie Williams, LaKenzi Mosley, and Axton Dixon.
He also leaves to cherish his memory: his siblings, Clarence Dixon, Jr., Frances (Samuel Sr.) Hatcher, Johnny (Patricia) Dixon, Sr., Delores (Jimmy) Brown; his brothers-in-law, Edward (Anne) Loatman, Sr., Morris (Rita) Loatman, Sr., Leslie (Evelyn) Loatman, Sr.; his sisters-in-law, Anna Stewart, Michelle Loatman, and Ruth Loatman.
Arvey will not be forgotten by those he served as a father figure to, Sandra (Kenneth) James and grandfather figure to Ira Gravely, Dwaune Gravely, Raheen Herring Sr., Hassan Herring, Sr., and Ryan Burks and host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
He was predeceased by his wife of 52 years, parents, mothers-in-law Corabelle Handy and Sarah Loatman, father-in-law Linwood Loatman, Sr., sister Georgia (Jamie) Pugh, brother William Dixon, brothers-in-law Linwood Loatman, Jr., Authur Loatman, Sr., Thomas Loatman, William Loatman, Sr., sisters-in-law Beulah Dixon, Sarah (Andrew) Waters, Harriet Dairsaw, Lillian Mosley, his favorite aunts Margaret Lanier and Hazel Hinmon, and his nephews Jeffrey Dixon and Samuel Hatcher, Jr.
Arvey will forever live on in our hearts.
