Avril Michael
Bartley
June 10, 2019
Avril Michael Bartley (aka Scottman), the third child born on March 14, 1954, to the union of Sidney Roy Bartley and Kathleen L. (Evans) Bartley in Manchester, Jamaica. He departed this life peacefully at home surrounded by his loving wife and family, on June 10, 2019.
As a youth he received his early education at Bethany Primary School in Manchester, Jamaica. Avril was an avid farmer and always reaped a
successful crop in whatever he planted. This natural way of farming, we would describe as having a green thumb. He migrated to America on December 27, 1987, to reunite with his mother and siblings in Bridgeton, NJ. He was employed with several employments, until he found his passion in welding. And worked at Kirk Pipe Welding Plant in Hammonton, NJ, as a professional welder.
Scottman, as he was affectionally called, was a very particular man, and an icon in his own rights. He was very outspoken and showed deep interest in world policies. His affection was evident to his lovely wife, and his family, and was especially fond of by little children, especially his nieces and nephews. His favorite pastime includes chauffeuring his lovely wife to any venue she desired and playing Dominoes with his friends. Avril was a member of Voice of Holiness Church of God in Christ, where his brother Pastor Hopeton Bartley serves as Founder and Senior Pastor. Over the years Pastor Bartley came to his house and administered the Word of God to him and led him through the sinner's prayer.
On his final weeks and days while he was in the hospital, he was visited by a dear friend of the family, Marvella McIntosh. When he saw her enter the hospital room; he was elated to see her. She immediately began to speak to him about the Lord. She told him, and I quote: Please repeat these words after me; "Jesus loves me, and I love Jesus. Lord forgive me all of my sins. Come into my heart. I accept you as my Lord and Savior." Avril began to cry and call out "Jesus, I love you. Jesus, I love you." While crying he said "Marvie you made it so easy for me to accept the Lord." Avril his wife Margery and Marvella wept over hearing him saying; "I accepted the Lord as my Lord and Savior." In his final moments on earth; he made peace with God. The Word of God declares in 1 Corinthians 3:6 KJV, I have planted, Apollos watered; but God gave the increase.
He leaves to cherish his memory: a loving wife of 48 years, Margery Williams Bartley, Mother, Kathleen Bartley of Bridgeton, NJ, Siblings, Gene (Roger) Ricketts of Bridgeton, NJ, Audrey Morrison of Bridgeton, NJ, Pastor Hopeton (Lorna) Bartley of Bridgeton, NJ, Claudette Edwards of Georgia, Courtney (Leonie) Bartley of Bridgeton, NJ.
He is predeceased by Father Sidney Bartley, Brother, Hughon Bartley, and a brother in law Joseph Morrison.
