Bennie Blunt, Sr. was born in Richland, New Jersey on September 9, 1935, to the late David and Gussie Hitt Blunt. He was their third child and raised in Richland with his two older siblings where he loved being outside, learned how to box, and helped his parents on their farm. As a child, he attended First Baptist Church. Bennie sometimes described himself as a mischievous child where he would use that playful nature on his friends and siblings alike; but by being the youngest and flashing his innocent smile, his siblings would always protect and look out for him. He attended Richland Elementary School and Vineland High School.

Bennie met and married Barbara Adams, and four children were born from this union. On March 9, 1999, he married Artie E. Williams, and they were married for 26 years.

He worked as an operator for Kerr Pipe Plant in Folsom. After leaving the plant, he went to work for Dougherty Brothers in Buena as a machine operator. Bennie retired in 2000 but later took a part time job as a custodian with Cumberland Christian School in Vineland. He enjoyed the job because it kept him busy and gave him something to do.

Bennie was a loving and caring husband, father, grandfather, and uncle. He was also observant, disciplined, but easy-going, and a great provider, always ensuring his family had what they needed. While he enjoyed being at home, he loved the outdoors and sunshine. He had a quiet and peaceful nature, but he also liked to joke around and laugh with his family.

Bennie was a member of First Wesleyan Church but later became a member of Shiloh Baptist Church, and he remained a faithful member until his death.

On Wednesday, June 18, 2025, Bennie went home to be with the Lord. He was preceded in death by his parents, David and Gussie Blunt, his brother, Archie Blunt, Sr. and sister, Cleo Jones. He leaves to cherish his memory: his wife, Artie; Brother-in-law, Robert Jones, Sr.; four children – Gwendolyn Barnes (William Raikes, Jr.); Sheila Johnson (Hal, Sr.); Bennie Blunt, Jr. (Shirley) and Michael Blunt, Sr. (Geraldine); three
stepchildren – Darrell R. Owens; Tonya L. Pearson and Steven Williams; 16 grandchildren;10 great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
