Betty Jean (Morgan) Bell was born on July 8, 1946, in Bridgeton, NJ to the late Horace and Pearlie Agnes (Daniels) Morgan and raised by her late step-mother Gerlean (Streeter) Morgan.

She spent her childhood years in Rosenhayn, NJ and was educated in the Bridgeton Public School System.

In 1964, Betty married Leroy Hicks who died in the Vietnam War in 1965.  From this union she gave birth to one son, Gregory Morgan.  As a widow, Betty raised  her son with the love and help of her family.

In 1966, while taking her friend to get cigarettes, she stopped at a local gas station where she met Refes Bell Jr, wearing a white hat.  She was once told and believed that good guys wear white hats and from this meeting, a relationship began. They married on October 21, 1967, and were together for 57 years.  They were blessed with four children – Gregory, Dawn, Refes III, and Mark.

Betty worked in the dietary department at Newcomb Hospital and later at Rainbow Nursing Home for 30+ years until she retired. She enjoyed cooking and going out to eat with her family, and church friends. She was a long-time member of Chestnut Assembly of God until her illness prevented her regular attendance.  Betty was an active member of the Nursery and Marriage Encounter Ministry and attended Sunday School.

Betty was predeceased by her parents, Horace and Pearlie Agnes Morgan; Stepmother, Gerlean Morgan; sons, Refes III and Mark Bell; sisters: Shirley Nelson, Diane Scholfield, and Mae Francis Hart; and brother, Danny Hart.

She leaves to cherish her memory: beloved husband, Refes Bell Jr. of Clayton, NJ; her son, Gregory (Shaun) Morgan of Glassboro, NJ; her daughter, Dawn (David) Cottrell of Clayton, NJ; daughter-in-law, Ester Bell of Berlin, NJ; 14 grandchildren, and 12 great grandchildren; 6 sisters, Marion Baldwin of Vineland, NJ, Christine Carter of Georgia, Margie (Leonard) Hoover of Norma, NJ, Lorraine (Keven) Townsend of Glassboro, NJ, Lou Jane (Michele) Morgan of Chatham, NJ, Katherine Morgan of Rosenhayn, NJ; 5 brothers: Ira (Terri) Morgan of Hopewell, NJ, Willie Hart, Roosevelt Hart, Ralph (Detra) Morgan, Jerry (Lucille) Morgan all of Vineland, NJ; 2 brothers-in-law, Charles Scholfield of Vineland, NJ, and Thomas (Sallie) Bell of Florida; 2 sisters-in-law, Theresa Bell of Texas and Denise (Scott) Atkins of Sicklerville, NJ; daughter of the heart Deborah Barrett; a host of nieces, nephews, family and friends, and her Private Caretakers.
