Bishop Ruth Elizabeth Brown Satchell, 100 entered eternal rest on Tuesday, March 1, 2011. She was born May 26, 1910, in New Windsor, MD, to the late Rev. George and Mary Jane Brown. She was the seventh (7th) of eight (8) siblings, all of whom preceded her in death.
Bishop Satchell attended public school in Preachland, MD and graduated from the New Windsor School, in New Windsor, MD.
In 1937 she married Elder Henry Warren Satchell. She is the mother of seven children. Bishop Satchell served very faithfully and worked diligently at her husband's side on many pastoral callings in Southern towns.
Bishop Satchell graduated from the Philadelphia School of Nursing in 1954. Upon graduating, she held various nursing jobs throughout the Philadelphia area. She worked as a nurse at the University of Pennsylvania Hospital, the Einstein Medical Center Northern Division, and the Home of the Incurable in Philadelphia. Following that, she was employed as a nurse at Newcomb Hospital, Vineland, NJ.
In 1966 Bishop Satchell came to Bethel Pentecostal Church, Bridgeton, NJ, with her husband, who was at that time pastor of Bethel. She continued to work diligently by his side until the Lord called him home in August of 1972. After a unanimous decision by Mt. Sinai Holy Church of America's Board, she was installed as pastor of Bethel by the late Bishop Mary E. Jackson on the very day of Bishop's husband's burial. Because of the Lord's leading and her obedience to His speaking, Bishop Satchell, in 1974, was led by the Lord to Port Norris, NJ,
to heal souls. In 1975, after many hours of traveling and spending of her own finances, Bishop Satchell saw her vision become a reality; a beautiful edifice known as Faith Tabernacle was dedicated.
She was quiet in her manner, pleasant toward everyone, and enjoyed sharing the Word of God and His love. She would often say, "Oh, I want to be ready when the Lord calls me." She was a lovable soldier who has gone to claim her reward. She has left a living example of loving service, worthy of emulation.
This tribute should bring comfort to her loving daughter Pauline and grandsons, Larry and Nathaniel, and their families who were a comfort to her. "When the sun of life reaches its zenith, with the brightness of a well – spent life, when the passing comes, we can only say that a beautiful life has ended here on earth" but is just beginning.
Her work in the ministry continued as she attended the Manna Bible School and evangelized in 1960 and founded the Christian Tabernacle Church in West Minister, Maryland, where she pastored for 10 years.
Numerous accolades, recognitions, and commendations have been bestowed upon
Bishop Satchell in the secular and religious worlds, but she has gone home to receive
her great reward.
