Blanche H. Woods's Obituary

Blanche H. Gross-Woods was born on December 1, 1959, in Salem, NJ.  She was the daughter of the late Henrietta and Oakford Gross Sr.

Blanche legacy began while living on Union Street in Salem with her Grama and family.  She really cherished those years.  She attended the Old Grant Street School and was a member of the Salem High School, Class of 1958.

Later she met and married Joe N. Woods Sr.  They were blessed with five children.  Through the years, she helped to care for her nieces and nephews who she enjoyed babysitting.  Later years she had her own Granny Day Care for children everywhere.  She loved having them close to her.  Her own children were her life.  She would always say, "With faith in the Lord and my children, I wouldn't make it without them."

Blanche attended Mt. Hope United Methodist Church Sunday School at an early age.  Participating in youth programs, Vacation Bible School, and Youth Choir.  She continued to serve the Lord at Mt. Hope joining the young adults as Presider and Vice President.  She was a member of the Anderson Gospel Chorus.  Blanche also sponsored Family and Friends Day for 18 years.  Mom loved football especially when the Pittsburg Steelers were playing.  They were her favorite team (The Steel Curtain).  She had all Steelers items from; earrings, pillows, throws, hats, socks, you name it, she had it.

Blanche worked several jobs; Salem Co. Memorial Hospital, Marilyn Dress Company, GC Murphys Company where she attended their job training school in Havertown, PA.  She worked for the company for 20 years as a  Buyer, Personnel Director, and Manager.  Her last place of employment was at Shop Rite/IGA in Salem, NJ.

Mom leaves a legacy of love and many heartfelt memories.  Those left to cherish her memories are her daughters, Annette Gross Martin of Salem, NJ, Sharon Gross of Blackwood, NJ; her sons, Joe N. Woods Jr. of Lincoln, DE and Kenneth E. Woods of Salem, NJ.  She was also blessed to leave one sister, Bernice Parker and a special sister/cousin, Betty Woodford.  The Lord has also blessed her with seven grandchildren, Dr. Jasmine Woods of Mantua, NJ, Keith Jones of Matawan, NJ, Kenya Jean-Philippe (Fechner) of        Blackwood, NJ, Enjah Woods of Salem, NJ, whom she raised, Michael Harrell (Tina) of SC, Jovan and Jonia Woods of Salem, NJ; 2 great grandsons, Langston and Preston Jean-Philippe; son-in-law, Daniel Montgomery; daughter-in-law, Darnice Montgomery.

Blanche was predeceased by her daughter Sheryl Gross Montgomery, granddaughter Latoya Gross, sister Doris Gross Lewis, brothers Oakford Gross Jr., Lewis Gross Sr. and Harold Gross Sr., son-in-law, David Martin.
