Calvin Burke, known to many as a kind-hearted and hardworking man, was born on August 28, 1958 to the late Alvin Burke Sr. and Bertha L. Burke (Manor). Calvin departed this life on May 9, 2026. He was raised in Bridgeton, New Jersey, attended Bridgeton Public Schools and graduated with the Class of 1976.
From an early age, Calvin developed a strong work ethic and a passion for serving others. As a young man, he began delivering newspapers for the Bridgeton Evening News and the Atlantic City Press. He later built a career in the grocery industry, working at ShopRite stores in Somers Point and Vineland. Calvin eventually continued his career with Incollingo’s Family Markets in Salem and Egg Harbor City, where he worked faithfully until retiring due to health concerns.
Calvin had a warm spirit and genuine love for people. His kindness and quick-witted humor touched everyone who knew him. His nieces and nephews affectionately called him “Uncle Calvie”. In addition to his parents, Calvin was preceded in death by his wife Robin Burke and a brother, Alvin Burke Jr.
He leaves to cherish his memory two sisters, Alberta Burke Canion (Robert J. Canion Sr.), and Diane Burke. Nieces: Michelle Lewis, Nicole Smith; and Tameka James. Nephews: Christopher Burke, Johnathan Canion, Aaron Canion, James Canion, Sr. along with a host of beloved great-nieces, great-nephews, extended family members, and dear friends.
A private memorial will be held by the family at a later date.
Calvin's legacy of kindness, humor, dedication, and caring spirit toward family will forever remain in the hearts of all who knew and loved him.
