Charlotte W.
Fletcher
April 9, 1925 – April 11, 2023
Charlotte W. Fletcher, daughter of Alice Richards and Charles Williams departed this life on Tuesday, April 11, 2023, peacefully at home surrounded by her loving family.
Charlotte was born in Woodbury, NJ on April 9, 1925. She and her sister Gertrude moved to Salem at a young age. They were raised by their foster mother Mom Holden with their foster brothers on Olive Street. That is where she learned many important life skills such as cooking and gardening. They are just a couple of the skills that she passed along to her children and grandchildren. Charlotte graduated from Salem High School with the Class of 1943.
Shortly after graduating, she began employment at the Salem Hospital when it was located on Market Street. She later went to work at Heinz and Anchor Hocking Glass Factory. She met the love of her life, John W. Fletcher on the corner of Broadway and Keasby Street. After denying him a date for months, they finally developed a relationship that led to Holy Matrimony on April 9, 1949. After her marriage, she worked for a short period and then became at stay-at-home mother to her eight children. For many years Charlotte provided childcare in her home for numerous children as well as her grandchildren. Charlotte and John created a home of love, comfort and joy to all. Her love for flowers graced the home inside and out. She loved to spend time with her family, finish word search puzzles, and watch her favorite shows: Kelly and Ryan, Jeopardy, Wheel of Fortune and Law and Order: SVU. Charlotte's wittiness, serenity, and love will be an everlasting legacy she has left within the Fletcher family.
Charlotte leaves to cherish her love and memories: her children, Victoria, Daud (David), William, Katharine (Mark), Deanna (Marvin), and Christine. Eleven grandchildren: Cheryl (Earl), Ernest (Maritza), Thais, LaShonda (Matt), Jermaine "Eddie"(Maya), Tierra (JR), Trenee, Karim, Kendra, Kenesha and Khristopher.
