Clara A
Jones
August 26, 1941 – October 22, 2022
Clara A. Jones (81) of Gouldtown, NJ (affectionately known as Honey, Big Mom, and Ms. Clara) was born August 26, 1941, in Buckingham County, VA to the late Peter D. Bell Sr and the late Clara D. (Couch) Bell.
Her mother, also known to family as Nana, gave her the name Little Honey as a child while nursing her to health. As she grew older, the little was dropped and she was then known as Honey.
Clara attended and graduated from Bridgeton High School then went on to train and work as a Certified Nursing Assistant at Cumberland Manor Nursing Home. She retired from there but continued to work in the nursing field until she became a fulltime caretaker of her mother.
Clara always had love for the Lord and grew up under Mount Sinai Holiness Church of America and attended Bethel Pentecostal Church in Bridgeton, NJ where she gave her life to God. To be closer to her mother, she began attending Trinity Holiness Church on Fordville Road then later returned to Bethel where she attended with her sisters.
Clara always had a big heart and a passion for helping others. Her generosity and compassion was widely known throughout the community. During the years she fostered over 80 children, provided in home care for developmentally challenged adults, and hosted community summer lunch programs to help feed out of school children.
She would continue to learn about other programs and find more ways to further help the community, family, and friends. Clara's heart was seen in how she brought the family together. For years she hosted a 4th of July cookout which shortly became a mini family and neighborhood reunion. She was always there to provide in any way she could which included food, household supplies, advice, and even money at which she was known to say "Come here so I can grease your palms".
She would have one of the best light and decoration displays for Christmas. The yard and deck would be full of flashing lights, singing choirs, moving reindeer, Santa on the roof and her nativity scene. It was just another way for her to share her cheer.
She was a prayer warrior and did not need to know the person to pray for them. She taught her children and grandchildren to read the Bible and develop a personal relationship with God. She was proud to serve God and worked as a missionary. When she was no longer able to be within the church building, she would listen to services via phone and would call into the prayer line. She would always remind others that "God would have the final say" and "This too shall pass".
The Bell siblings had a close bond with Clara and would call her daily and visit when possible. A couple sisters even shared the love of QVC and Home Shopping Network and would spend time conversing while ordering items they saw.
Clara was predeceased by her parents Peter and Clara Bell, sisters Virgina Bell-Lewis, Ida Williams, brother Peter Bell Jr., daughters Evelyn Bell-Williams, Betty Roundtree, and son Jonathan (Wayne) Bell.
Clara was survived by children Raymond Bell, Francis Royal, Tamyia Gould (Rodney), Stephinie Johnson (Milton), Darell Jones (Dorian); grandchildren Roy Bell (Nay), Tamekia Bell, Raymond Brown (Yvette), Demond Bell, Tamyia Bell, Shakira Bell-Duncan (Rafiq), Natashia Hunter, Deawanna Harris, Shanika Davis, Jonathan Bell Jr., Ernest Bell, Dequan Jones, Andre Ashby, Furquan Mitchell and Wali Mitchell.
