Clifton Percival Brooks's Obituary

Clifton Percival Brooks was born on December 28, 1940 in Kingston, Jamacia to Charles Winter and Rubina Brandon, both of whom preceded him in death.  Clifton went home to be with the Lord on November 26, 2023, surrounded by family and loved ones.

Clifton was affectionally called Poppy, named by his oldest grandchild Jasmine and J-Best (Jamacia's Best) for his skills on the soccer field.  Clifton migrated to America in 1963 and attended trade school in New York where he studied to be an Auto Mechanic.  He was drafted into the United States Army where he served in the 101st Airborne Division where he was a paratrooper.  Clifton also went to Vietnam and worked as a machine gun operator.  Clifton's decorations and medals include National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Campaign Medal, Parachute Badge, Vietnam Service Medal, Good Conduct Medal, and Army Commendation Medal.  Clifton was Honorably discharged in 1968.

After his discharge he moved to Vineland, New Jersey where he resumed his Auto Mechanic career.  He worked as a transmission mechanic with Al Perry for 8 years.  Clifton owned his own shop for 30 years named Cliff's Transmission Service on Plum Street and the Boulevard where he was known as the transmission doctor.

Clifton was a devoted husband to the love of his life June and they were inseparable.  They enjoyed traveling and spending time with one another.  He was also a loving and supportive father and grandfather.  He was a staunch advocate of education for his children and grandchildren and would provide unconditional assistance whenever needed.  Clifton was very proud of his children's and grandchildren's accomplishments in life.  There is nothing he wouldn't do for his family to ensure they could reach their full potential.

Clifton had a very special relationship with his mother-in-law who proceeded him in death.  During her elderly years she lived with the family.  Clifton would come home from work with special treats that made her day.  She loved him very much and he could never do any wrong in her eyes.  Clifton was very generous to the less fortunate.  He loved to help others during their times of need.  Clifton looked  forward to the Brooks annual 4th of July cookouts where family would travel from New York and friends would gather to get a taste of his famous homemade hamburgers and curry goat.  After retirement he found piece of mind with the koi pond he built in his backyard.  He would sit outside for hours watching the fish in his pond.

In 2002 Clifton accepted the Lord and was baptized.  He was an active member of St. Paul's Baptist Church in Clayton, NJ where he was a trustee until he became ill.  Clifton loved going to church and loved the Lord.  He was a devoted member and would volunteer his services whenever needed.  He would also attend The Vineland Community Prayer Room where he would pray and study the Bible.

Clifton was predeceased in death by his by father Charles and mother Rubina; brother's Bryon, Lincoln, Egbert and Billy.

Clifton leaves to cherish his wife June; children, Albert Brooks (Lexington, NC), Alston Brooks (Yuisa) Grafton, VA, Anthon Brooks (Lancaster, OH), Sharon Brooks (Carneys Point, NJ) Carol Scarborough (El-amin) (Watchung, NJ); adopted daughter, Patricia Ireland; grandchildren, Nekema, JaDaniel, Jasmine, Joslyn, Julia, Dreshawn Isaiah, Donovan, Kianna, Dominic, Joell, and Ivanna; Godson, Bryan Kiffin; grand-goddaughter, Christina Diggs; his brother, Alrec (Bobby) Brooks; sisters, Wilma Waller (Billy) and Gracie Griffiths and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
