David Earl Harris's Obituary

David Earl Harris was the first born to the late Roger and the late Jean Harris on December 4, 1942
in Bridgeton, New Jersey. He had three siblings; Bruce Harris, Gary (Omar) Harris and Judy Harris.
He suddenly transitioned this life on Saturday, April 23, 2022.


David attended the public schools in Bridgeton, NJ, graduating high school in 1962. He was a
member of the Track and Field Team and Cross-Country Team. He attended Lewis Business College
in Detroit, Michigan. David was drafted into the US Army and served in the District of
Kaiserslautern Military Base, Landstuhl, Germany. He earned the rank of Specialist Five with a
Letter of Commendation.


He retired from DTE Energy's Gas & Electric Company, Detroit Michigan. Received a service award
for Outstanding Employee. David was a member of the Outreach Committee assisting persons
having Alcohol and Drug concerns. David enjoyed working with Meals on Wheels during his
employment with DTE. He also assisted under-represented persons where he helped provide
winter clothing, food, shelter etc. He was loved and always willing to lend a helping hand and
listening ear… always giving and asking nothing in return. He was a facilitator for National and
International for Narcotics Anonymous and Alcohol Anonymous Programs all over the country for
over 20 years. David thoroughly enjoyed listening to jazz, reading and working in his garden.
David joined Word of Grace New Covenant Ministries where he served on the Salvation Grace
Ministry. On July 2021, he became a resident of New Jersey Veterans Memorial Home at Vineland,
NJ.


He leaves to cherish his memory daughters, Cristina Harris, Gastonia, North Carolina and Courtney
Smith, Detroit, Michigan; grandchildren, Nia-Iman, Zekari-Amber, Omari, La'Mya, Amare, and
Malia; great grandchildren, Josiah and Kai'lei; sister, Judy Chrishon (Michel), Suitland, MD; brother,
Gary "Omar" (Judy "Shaheeda") of Detroit, Michigan; sister-in-law, Phyllis Harris, Aberdeen, MD
and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
