Morrissey, Sr.
September 18, 1929 – March 19, 2024
David Emmanuel Morrissey Sr., of Bridgeton, NJ lived an exceptionally amazing life. David was born September 18, 1929, in Jennings Village, Antigua, West Indies to the late Joseph Morrissey and the late Dorothy (nee Merchant) Morrissey.
David's early years were spent in Antigua, where he attended and graduated from Jennings School. He later traveled to the United States on a farm work program, traveling and working in various states such as Wisconsin, Arkansas and Florida.
David loved all things outdoors. He was the proprietor of Cherryville Nursery in Fairfield Twp, NJ. Landscaping and farming was his absolute passion. David earned a degree in Agricultural Business from Cumberland County College and was a member of several Nurserymen Associations, including the US Department of Agricultural Association and Rutgers Association.
David was kind, always willing and ready to lend a helping hand. He was a teacher - he seized every opportunity to patiently walk you through every individual step and if you were lucky enough, that demonstration was enhanced by one of his many stories and punctuated with his infectious laughter. He lived a full life rich with experience and was always happy and willing to share with anyone who was open to listen and learn.
David's love for his family was unmatched. He was always surrounded by his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. His family was the joy and light of his life. The unending chorus of "pop" or "pop-pop" fueled his laughter and lit the sparkle in his eyes David is survived by his loving wife Carlos J. Morrissey of Bridgeton, New Jersey; his children Coralie (Worrell) Christian of London, England, Maureen (Todd) Bissonnette of Willington, Connecticut, Lisa Morrissey and Dorothy "Nay" (Roy) Bell of Bridgeton, New Jersey, David Jr. (Leah) Morrissey of Portland, Oregon and Frank Johnson of Millville, New Jersey; siblings Mark (Audrey) Morrissey of Jennings, Antigua and Catherine Morrissey of London, England; grandchildren, Leah Hawkins, Sha'nae Morrissey, Richard Hawkins, Shontae Morrissey, Sameerah Griswold, Jamilah Griswold, Hamisha Johnson, Melissa Christian, Davron Christian, Jasmine Scales, Shancharae Wiggins, Kendall Morrissey, Brendon Morrissey, and great grand- children, Journee, Brooklyn, Lauryn, Liam, Kasey, Ha'Nasia, Rico, Sienna and Monae-Rose; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends, including longtime friend Harry Gould.
In addition to his parents Joseph and Dorothy Morrissey, he was predeceased by siblings Romick, William, Thomas, Joseph Morrissey and Laurel (Morrissey) Edwards.
