Deloris Thomas, born January 7, 1945, in Valdosta, Georgia, entered into eternal rest surrounded by her loved ones on June 4, 2026. She was raised in Valdosta during her early years, she later moved to South Florida, where she grew in faith and service as a devoted member of the House of God Church. There, she served faithfully for many years as the church secretary, offering her time, dedication, and unwavering commitment to God and her community.
Deloris went on to marry and became the proud mother of two beautiful children, Nina and James, whom she cherished deeply. Her life later led her to New Jersey, where her passion for ministry continued as she served as an Associate Minister at Tabernacle of Deliverance Church.
A true servant at heart, Deloris founded Helping Hands Ministries, an outreach organization dedicated to providing clothing to burn‑out victims and families in need. Her compassion extended even further into the community as she joyfully provided lunches to neighborhood children every summer. No matter the circumstance, Deloris consistently put others before herself—offering advice, prayer, comfort, and encouragement to anyone who crossed her path.
Deloris was known for her gentle spirit and her remarkable ability to remain calm, kind, and steady. She never allowed anger to take root, nor did she step out of character. She was, to all who knew her, a rare and precious gem—a true diamond in the rough.
Her legacy of love, service, and faith will continue to shine brightly in the lives she touched.
She was predeceased by her father, Robert Akins, and mother, Eula Mae Jackson. She leaves to cherish one sister, Ola Mae Washington, two children, Nina D. (Bishop Dr. Hudson A.) Williams and James A. (Tierra) Jennings, III. Grandchildren, Kierston L. (Schane) Watkins, Evonte (Ketsia) Newton, James A. Jennings, IV, Jasmine and Jerica Jennings.
