King
March 4, 1960 – April 23, 2023
Denise Lorraine Hughes King was born to the late Major and Grace Hughes on March 4, 1960 in Woodbury, NJ. She was educated in the Upper Pittsgrove school system and graduated from Woodstown High School in 1978. During high school, she was a member of several clubs and especially enjoyed being a member of the color guard to the marching band. Denise went on to higher education and earned a Bachelors degree in Information Systems Science in 1982 from Stockton State University. Later she earned a Masters degree from Temple University in 2009.
She held a long-time career as a Computer Programmer, working in Pennsylvania, New Jersey and Delaware until her illness. Denise always loved to work. Starting from a young age, she worked various farming jobs in her hometown of Monroeville.
Denise always loved a challenge. She enjoyed learning new things and figuring out ways to solve them. She was one strong-willed woman. She overcame so many obstacles and never gave up. EVER. She even made battling breast cancer in 2002 look simple. She believed hard work and determination always paid off. She accomplished many things in her life and many people looked up to her.
Denise enjoyed traveling, shopping, operating small side businesses, holidays with her family, hanging out and chatting with her best friend Charlotte Braxton, playing the piano, walking/ exercising, visiting health food stores and practicing Reiki. Her favorite snacks were popcorn and french fries.
On July 9,1988, Denise married the love of her life, William King. 4 years later they welcomed their pride and joy, Karen King, on October 7,1992. Denise loved her some Will and Karen.
Preceding her in death were her husband William, infant son Joseph and infant grandson William and beloved cat Maxine.
Left to mourn are her daughter; Karen, granddaughter; Sydney, grandson; Joseph, sisters; Diane Hughes and Deborah Minatee(Ellis), sister in law; Priscilla King-Garner(Zawdie), Best friend; Charlotte Braxton uncle; Wellington Hughes, nephew; Ellis M. Minatee, and nieces; Jessica and Cierra Wright. As well as a host of cousins, friends, and coworkers.
Special thanks to the various staff at Lighthouse Hospice who cared for up until her death.
