Sister Dorothea Wainwright Better known as (Dorothy); of Millville, NJ went home to be with the Lord Sunday June 5, 2022 after a brief illness. She was born August 13, 1933 to the late James C. and Minister Pearl F. Pernell in Hopewell Township. Dorothy was one of thirteen siblings.
She received her education mostly in Cumberland County. She attended Computer Training Programs and advanced Secretarial Classes.
Dorothy worked in varies capacities of employment such as domestic work, factory (in the capacity of supervisor) and driving bus for Scope Preschool Children. For several years she worked at the Adult Training Center in Upper Deerfield. She did secretarial work at the Get-Gould Cooperation in New York. Her last places of employment was working for the Special Care Agency, and private Home Care for the disabled.
She was a peoples person, very rarely did Dorothy meet a stranger, it seemed that almost everyone was a relative. To know her was to love her. She enjoyed vacationing, traveling , taking snapshots of family and friends, sewing, crocheting, and a favorite past time was vending. Sometimes she would say, "I did good, or I got my money back for what I paid for the table" or she may say, "it was nice just being out in the air and talking with the people". Dorothy could write a poem at the drop of a hat so to speak.
As a child she was taught the ways of the Lord, and attended Bethel Pentecostal Church in Bridgeton, NJ with her grandfather Elder Charles Cooper. Dorothy accepted Jesus in her life, and sang on the youth choir. She would often speak of her childhood years attending church, and attending the Youth Convention in New York.
In her adult life in the late 1980's she became stedfast in her walk with the Lord becoming a member of St. John Pentecostal Church working diligently under the leadership of the late Elder Hartley J. Pernell Sr. and the present Pastor Elder Catherine Pernell . Sister Dorothy would do whatever her hands found to do in the service of the. For years she has been the St. John Missionary President and for the past three years president of the Usher Board.
Sister Dorothy leaves to cherish her memories her devoted husband, Noble , stepsons stepdaughters ,and spouses; grand, great, and great great grandchildren; one aunt Mrs. Charlotte Burton Two brothers, Mr. Edward Pernell of Delaware, and Mr. Lawrence Pernell(Louise) of Vineland, NJ, three sisters, Elder Arlene Holden, and Mrs. Geneva Holmes of Millville, and Mrs. Pearl Moore of Bridgeton ;Sister in -laws, Elder Catherine Pernell, Elder Brenda Adams, and Mrs. Mittie Williams; three brother in laws, Roger, Sander and Mark (Juanita) A special daughter Carol, A special brother Bill, three special sisters, Margaret, Rita, and Denise, four special friends Carrie, Judy, Deloras ,and Pearl, two special cousins Zandra and Carol; name sake's, (Dorothy),Several god children, a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends who love her.
She is predeceased by four brother's, Elder Hartley Pernell Sr. Vernon, Ronald, and Lewis; three sisters, Beatrice, Connie, and Ida.
