Dorothy
Hadley
September 27, 1939 – August 13, 2019
Dorothy May Hadley, affectionately known as Dot, went home to be with her Lord and Savior on August 13, 2019. She was surrounded by her loving family during her passing. Dorothy was born in Blackville, South Carolina on September 27, 1939 to the late James Angus Copeland and Carrie Green Copeland. Her family relocated to Port Norris, NJ and subsequently to Bridgeton, NJ when she was in her teens. She was educated in the Bridgeton Public School system and later went on to work for various companies in NJ such as Murbeck Knitting Mills and Kimball Glass.
Shortly after arriving in Bridgeton she met the love of her life, Simon, and they married on Christmas Day, 1959. Together they raised a family of four children, in addition to two of her younger brothers after the passing of her mother. She was a faithful member of Bethel Pentecostal Church for over 50 years serving on the usher board, kitchen staff. She sang on the church choir and in which served as president for a period of time. Dot was an exceptional cook with a penchant for baking cakes and her infamous sweet potato pies, mac & cheese, and candied yams to name a few. Her hobbies also included crafting, knitting, crocheting, cake decorating, interior decorating, and word search puzzles. Nevertheless, her greatest fulfillment came from serving the Lord, the love of her family (especially those grandchildren), and spending time in her comfortable home which was always full of love. She was well travelled and would share fond memories of trips to Disney World, Chicago, Georgia and cruises to several Caribbean Islands- including St. Thomas, Aruba, Curacao and the Cayman Islands.
Dorothy is survived by her loving husband Simon, 4 children Randall Hadley (Angie) of Vineland, NJ, Deborah Ingram (Tony) of North Brunswick, NJ, Wendy Derrickson (Reggie) of Bowie, MD, and Tammy Ince (Carlos) of Reisterstown, MD.
She will be greatly missed by her 17 grandchildren Tyanna Hadley, Nichele Derrickson, Morrell Tolbert, Reginald Derrickson II, Denzel Ingram, Nicole Derrickson, Marcus Derrickson, Alyssa Ince, Daquwan Hadley, Myles Ingram, Davionne Hadley, Carlos Ince, III (Cody) Ince, Ashley Ince, Christina Fentress, Kimberly Fentress, Tony Ingram,Jr., and Ishmael Ingram. She was blessed with three great-grandchildren, Jaxon Hicks, Reginald Derrickson,III and Jayson Diggs. She leaves to mourn her brothers Jack Copeland (Tina) of Maryland and Conrad Copeland of Delaware as well as many nieces, nephews and cousins and her christ family at Bethel Pentecostal Church. She was predeceased by her parents James and Carrie Copeland, her sister Pearl, brothers James "Bubble", Daniel, Ernest, Curtis and Wilbur (Lavance) Copeland and her beloved granddaughter Alexis Ince.
The family will be receiving friends 6pm-10pm Sunday at the Hampton Inn, 2134 W. Landis Ave., Vineland.
