Edward C.
Pernell, Sr.
October 12, 1941 – December 9, 2024
Edward Christopher Pernell, Sr. was born on October 12, 1941 in Stow Creek NJ to the late James & Pearl Pernell. He lived a great meaningful life. One filled with purpose d passion. As a young lad, he attended Stow Creek Elementary School. He was very animated & used his imagination when he played games; running down hills with old tires, pretending to be a horse eating grass.
A menace, who intentionally got in trouble, & placed in the cloak room where he would go through other students' lunches & indulge. The natural born comedian that he was, often made jokes about it. He described how neatly the sandwiches were packaged with deli meat & cheese, and not just mayonnaise, cut down the middle wrapped in wax paper. He even ate the apple & left no crumbs.
Early adolescence he took the responsibility of caring for his younger siblings, to help lighten the load of his parents. Oftentimes, he reminisced about having to comb & style his sister's hair for school. Years later. as a young adult man, he used some of that same love & care that he shared with his siblings, now with his 8 beautiful children & those close to him that he loved dearly
Within recent years, as an older man, he would enjoy meaningful walks with his daughter, throughout his community He grew a love for various activities, including bingo, painting, arts & crafts, and attending Sunday worship. These simple yet meaningful things he found joy in.
Edward was cool as a fan-one of people who seemed to glide through life with natural ease. He had a smooth way about him, a quiet confidence that drew people in. You could always catch him so stylish & rocking a pair of shades looking effortlessly sharp. Yet. it wasn't just his style that made him stand out- it was his beautiful smile that captured attention first, a smile so bright & genuine that would light up a room. A reflection of the kind of person he was inside-a true gentleman, always kind, always real, & always making those around him feel welcomed.
He wasn't one to seek attention or show off, but you could always tell how much he cared through his actions. He took immense pride in being hard worker, & that dedication defined much of his life. His longest and most cherished career was at Venice Maid, now known as Aunt Kitties Foods, where he was employed for over 49 years. His commitment to his job wasn't just about the work--it was about the people, the relationships, and the sense of responsibility he carried with him every day. He wasn't just an employee; he was a staple of the place, someone that everyone could rely on.
Some of his favorite past times included fishing, gardening & watching Nascar races He was a true Eagles fan. Cooking was another way he showed his love-whether it was a family meal or something simple, he put his heart into every dish. His meals weren't just food; they were an expression of care, of bringing people together around the table, especially his spaghetti that was a family favorite. His knack for fixing things, whether it was a lawnmower, electrical cords & clocks, or working on cars. He showed the same care & attention he gave to every aspect of his life. He was the guy you turned to when something needed fixing, because you knew he'd get it done-& done right.
And of course, his love for music. No particular genre was his favorite, but one with a nice groovy beat where he could show off his infamous dance moves with them bowlegs. He enjoyed long drives admiring the scenic route throughout the country roads. But no matter where he went, he stayed true to himself--a man of many words & actions that followed along. A true character full of life & laughter always there when you needed him, with a genuine smile & a steady presence.
He lived a full life, not defined by what he did, but by how he made others feel. A man of many talents from selling shoes to trading things Whether it was the warmth of his smile. the quiet pride in his work or the smooth confidence with which he approached life. He leaves behind a legacy full of resilience hard work, love, laughter, & strength His actions. driven by integrity & determination, have left an indelible mark on all who knew him.
Left to cherish his lasting legacy are his beautiful children, Linda, Dorothy, Antonette, Gina, Edward, Timothy, & Brian (Stephanie), grandchildren & great grandchildren. His siblings, Arlene, Lawrence (Louise), Geneva, & Pearl (Sander) & an army of family & friends who love & adore him dearly.
He's predeceased by his parents James & Pearl Pernell, daughter Edna, granddaughters Latisha & Monica, great grandchildren Monae & Jeremiah, sisters Beatrice, Connie, Dorothea, Ida, & Ida, & brothers Hartley, Vernon, Lewis & Ronald.
