Elder Eleanore Laura Steward's Obituary

Elearnore L. Steward was born and raised in Bridgeton, New Jersey. Pastor Steward attended the local grammar schools, the local high school, Cumberland County College, and Stockton State in Pomona, New Jersey.

On December 31, 2005, she retired from full time employment as a Registered Nurse at South Jersey Hospital Systems- Bridgeton Division as the 11-7 charge nurse on the Adult Mental Health Unit. During her years of employment, she has served as a public health nurse for the county of Cumberland and has also served short-term assignments as a traveling nurse at Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital in Camden, New Jersey; Greater Baltimore Medical Center in Baltimore, Maryland; and also at John's Hopkins Medical Center in Baltimore. Pastor Steward also served on the Cumberland County Board of Health representing the local health care industry and the black population of Cumberland County.

Pastor Steward was married to William R. Steward, master diesel mechanic and is the mother of William John, Celeste, Renee, and Robyn. She has 21 adorable grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren of whom she is very proud.

In her early adulthood, Pastor was convinced by the Holy Spirit of her many sins. Under conviction she knelt beside her living room sofa, cried out to the Lord, and He heard her prayer. Over 40 years ago, she began a new life in the fellowship of God.

Pastor united with the membership of Bethel Pentecostal Church and worked diligently in the service of the Lord- no job was too small. Whatever her hands found to do she did- clean the church, sing on the choir, teach Sunday school, lift offerings, lead devotions, do home visitations, and pick up other members of service! She served faithfully and willingly.

In 1976 she felt led of the Lord to answer His call to deliver the spoken word of God. She counseled with her pastor and was given a set time to deliver her trial sermon. Her text was taken from the 3rd chapter of Jeremiah. Her subject- "Return, O' Backsliding Israel." God blessed her delivery and she was well received by the church at large. Pastor continued to work in the church and assist her various pastors as they came and went. She was eventually promoted to the office of an Evangelist. While working with the late Elder Anthony Leon Pitts, she was asked to serve as his assistant pastor.

During the Convocation in 1993, she was submitted to examination by the Board of Presbyters and promoted to the office of Elder- being ordained that year in the Holy Convocation. She returned to Trinity continuing to serve with Elder Pitts in the capacity of assistant Pastor and to assist in the bringing to past his dream of a holy people who would love and serve God with a pure heart and a ready mind. When Elder Pitts was called home on June 3, 2001, she was appointed interim pastor by the Pennsylvania- New Jersey Jurisdictional Prelate, Bishop D. Elaine Harris. She was appointed pastor of Trinity Holiness Church in September 2001, by the Governing Board of Mt. Sinai Holy Church of America, Inc.
