Erick Jason Whitaker, 48, of Bridgeton, NJ. Erick, the son of Ruby Lee "Mason" and the late Edward Lee Whitaker, Sr., unexpectedly transitioned to heaven on Friday, December 4, 2020, in the line of duty.

Erick was born April 26, 1972 in Bridgeton, NJ. He attended Seabrook and Upper Deerfield Elementary Schools, Cumberland Regional High School and Cumberland County College. Erick had been employed at K-Mart, Prudential, Creative Marketing Strategies and lastly working at South Woods State Prison as a Senior Correctional Police Officer, badge 6111. He had served for 19 years.

Erick gave his life to Christ while attending Voice of Deliverance church in Vineland, NJ.

Erick aka Mr. Jeopardy aka "E" will be remembered as an old soul, a witty genius, a music connoisseur, a good counsel, a great man and as his son's First Hero. He enjoyed watching WWE matches, the Miami Heat Charlotte Hornets, watching movies and playing anything that tested his brain. He always enjoyed a "good time".

In addition to his mom, he is survived by his son, Je'son Z. Whitaker and his bonus son, De'von L. Carter both of Middletown, DE. His siblings Doralene Whitaker, Bridgeton and Edward Lee Whitaker, Jr. (Angelika) of Virginia Beach, VA. His niece Ashley Whitaker and great nephew Tyreke Whitaker. His close friends Vincent Bright, Jai Wright, D. "Deaky" Woods and Eric Gould, plus other relatives, friends and his caring South Woods State Prison family.

Erick was predeceased by his father, Edward Lee Whitaker, Sr., his grandparents, Harvey Smith and Mandy Ann "McCloud" Whitaker, and Namon and Effie "Mason" Jones.
