Evelyn "Frankie" Hagamin's Obituary

Evelyn F. Hagamin (affectionately known as "Frankie") was born on March 8, 1939, to the late Peter and Clara Bell in Richmond, Virginia. She graduated from Bridgeton High School in 1956 and later enrolled in the Berean Institute in Philadelphia, PA, where she studied stenography. After graduating from Berean Institute, she was the private secretary to Rev. William H. Gray Sr., the pastor of Bright Hope Baptist Church in Philadelphia, PA.

On a return trip to Berean after a weekend break, Frankie met Kenwood Hagamin during her bus commute. Soon after, the two were in love and married on June 10, 1957. This would fulfill Frankie's proclamation to her sister, Ida when she was just 11 years old and saw Kenny for the first time. Eleven-year-old Frankie said, "I'm gonna marry him!" seven years later, she married the love of her life. Their love story was 68 years long, growing stronger and stronger with each passing year. Four children, Rene, Kenwood, Jr., Kim, and Kevin, were born into this union. Over those 68 years, many young couples sought wise marital counsel from Frankie and Kenny.

Frankie served as a youth usher at Bethel Pentecostal Church as a child. Her love for ushering remained even as an adult; she was always on her post at the sanctuary's doors, greeting people with a smile as she led them to their seats. Mother Hagamin taught many young people, including a few of her grandchildren, the art of ushering. In her youth, Frankie accepted salvation and joined Mt. Olive Holy Temple under the pastorate of the late Bishop Elmira Jeffries. Many do not know this, but Frankie knew how to praise the Lord in dance. Later, in 1976, Frankie rededicated her life to God at Rock of Ages Holy Church during a weeknight service.

After Kenny was deployed to Vietnam in 1965, Frankie decided it was time to move into a home. She found a house in Camden, NJ, and when Kenny returned from Vietnam, the family moved there.

Frankie worked at the Triangle Knitting Mills and later became the head cashier at Kiddie City Toy Store. She also had a distribution station for the Courier Post Newspaper, enabling paper boys to receive and deliver newspapers. Frankie became a foster parent and was the trusted neighborhood babysitter, welcoming all the neighborhood kids into the Hagamin house. None of her grandchildren ever attended daycare, Nana insisted that she take care of her babies until they were old enough for preschool.  She was always present for all activities in which her children were involved.

Frankie loved to shop and was known for saying, "Sales are for the saints." Frankie was known for her fashion and ability to "co-orrrdinate," as she often said. She was a generous woman. She would shop for anyone in need. Frankie knew how to catch designer clothes on good sales. She has clothed many women, men, girls, boys, and babies over the years.

For 20 years, Frankie worked faithfully beside her husband as First Lady of True Light Holy Church.

Frankie leaves to cherish her memory her loving husband, Kenny; four children, Rene Pritchett (Horace), Kenwood Hagamin Jr. (Tanielle), Kim Ames, Kevin Hagamin (Candy), William Ames, and Arlisha McCalop; nine grandchildren: Kasheena, Nakia, Brennan, Sean (Candace), Kelley, Kianna (Melvin), Kevin Jr. (Salena), Kenwood III, Korey (Jasmine); ten great-grandchildren: Rick, Sean Jr., Levi, Jordyn, Amara, Emery, Dezmond, Bryson, Michela, and the future Lil Miss Noodle (7/25); two sisters: Mary Farmer and Martha Pitts; one brother James Bell (Pat); two sisters-in-law, Ora Smith and Mabel Bell, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, many godchildren, friends, and church family.
