Obituary

On Monday, August 17, 2026, at the honorable age of 94, Geneva (née Boose) Johnson relinquished her earthly body and was finally given her heavenly adornments, which we all know included high-heels and a decorative church hat!

Born on April 18, 1932, to John and Lula (née Thompson) Boose, Geneva grew up with a love for helping others. As a young girl, she took great pride in tending to family chores, feeding the horses, and caring for her siblings. She received her education at a community school on Morton Avenue in Rosenhayn, New Jersey, and later worked as a seamstress in Landisville, where she made uniforms for the military for many years.

Geneva had a lifelong passion for music and dancing. She faithfully served in her church choir, using her vocal talents to glorify God. She also enjoyed tapping her feet to her favorite tunes, creating colorful artwork, spending time with her loved ones, and taking trips down to Atlantic City.

In 1954, Geneva married Charles Johnson, the love of her life. Together, they shared nearly 55 beautiful years of marriage before his passing. Deeply committed to children, Geneva and Charles made a profound impact on their community by serving as foster parents for nearly five decades, They provided a safe and nurturing home to a great number of children in need which touched countless families. That service has undoubtedly had a positive effect that will reverberate for generations.

Her rich legacy also lives on through her large family. She was the proud mother of Charles Edward “Pablo” Johnson, and chose motherhood through adoption for Joshua Webb Johnson and Tamia (née Johnson) Govan. She was the cherished grandmother of Charlien (Kirkpatrick) Patterson, Charles Sharidon (Rosa) Johnson, Tatiana Sanders, Elisha Govan, Judah Govan, Micah Govan, Miah-Reese Govan, and Ezra Govan. She was the adoring great-grandmother of Mikayla Patterson, Laila Patterson, Charles Johnson, Jr. (CJ), Matthew Johnson, Andrew Johnson, Nathan Johnson, Cameryn Johnson, and Jelissia Ramos-Govan. Geneva was also blessed to be the great-great-grandmother of Jayden Johnson, Avery Johnson, Emilia Rose Johnson-Melesio, and a sister-in-law, Cheryl (Allen) [née Straton] Boose.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Charles; sisters: Lucy (née Boose) Tangle, Caroline (née Boose) Cunningham, Bessie (née Boose) Crosby, Exie Mae (née Boose) Last Name, Lozel (née Boose) Suggs, Wille B. Boose, Louise (née Boose) Chandler, Essie Mae (née Boose) Hannah, Annie Belle (née Boose) Stone; brothers: John Boose, Boyd Boose, Albert Boose, and Allen Boose; and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.

In her life time, she was known by many nicknames, Aunt G, Neva, Gia, Miss Geneva, or Miss Boose just to mention a few. No matter what name you may have called her, to know her was to have known one of the sweetest people to have ever walked this earth!
