Obituary

Almighty GOD, in His infinite wisdom gently closed the eyes of Geneva Mason Mitchell and she entered into eternal rest on Sunday, March 30, 2014. > Geneva affectionly called Lovey by the family was born to parents Samuel R and Alverna Wynder Mason of Upper Deerfield twp, Cumberland CountyNovember 26, 1929.


She received her primary education in the Upper Deerfield Twp. school system, graduated from Bridgeton High School, and attended Glassboro State College (now named Rowen University). In 1952 she graduated from the New Hampshire Hospital School of Nursing in Concord, New Hampshire, whereas she pursued her career as a nurse in New Jersey Hospitals.


Geneva loved this county and wanted to give as much to it as she received. In 1962 she applied for a commission to serve and was awarded the The rank of First Lieutenant in the United States Air Force. She served one year at the Altus Oklahoma Air Force Base and a year at the Dover Delaware, Air Force Base. She served Honorably and proudly and was given a Honor Discharge at the completion of her commitment. > Geneva was a member of Mount Hill Missionary Baptist Church where she expressed her love for God and people. She considered it a privilege and duty to help those in need and in poor health. She tried to follow JESUS teachings.> Geneva shared her life, love, and interest with three husbands. George Willis Harris of West Cape May, N. J. - A New Jersey State Animal Inspector, Curtis James Mitchell, a New York City school teacher who had Grown tired of the classroom and chose another vocation, caring, for mentally challenged patients. Walter Jamed Henderson a deacon in the Baptist Church who rendered spiritual leadership in the church when needed.  As a lover' of flowers , Geeneva found much pleasure in arranging artificial flowers. To bring out the best in them" was her hobby.


Geneva also enjoyed traveling . At one time, she with a husband purchased a motor home to make traveling easier. Travelling was mainly during the summer months, holidays and whatever time would permit.


In leisure, she now travels in the embrace of those who predeased her. Her parents, her brothers Howard Leon Mason, Samuel Winfield Mason, John Wynder Mason, Nelson Warren Mason, William Henry Mason, Edward Richard Mason. Her sisters, Alma Ellen Mason Fisher, Evelyn Mae Mason Pierce, and Bertha Norine Mason Shaw. Also Geneva is survived by three God children: Patricia M. Mason Allen, Calvin B. Mason, Sherian E. Mason Wright. Two sister- in- laws Ilene Mason and Mamie Mills, niece Ethel Wynder Morgan, nephew Daniel H. Mason. Host of nieces, nephews, family & friends. Devoted care givers: Lori Mauvers, Phyllis Patterson ( nurs ie), Shadisha Stone ( D ), Helena Purnell, Ivette Fernandez ( talker ), Barbara Cochran & Patricia Dixon. A beautiful group of ladies. THANK-YOU!


Services will be held Friday at Mt. Hill Missionary Baptist Church 486 Big Oak Rd. Bridgeton where family and friends may attend a viewing 9-11am.   Geneva found Cumberland County Veterans Cemetery Hopewell, N.J. To be a very peaceful and serene place and she stated " this is where I want to be buried ."


Geneva request all her family & friends to return to Mt. Hill missionary Baptist Church for  a repass.
