George Andrew Pace's Obituary

George Andrew Pace was born December 1, 1943, in Washington, D.C. to the late A.D. and Theresa Pace. On Wednesday, June 19, 2019 he went home to be with his Lord and Savior.

George grew up in Washington, D.C. attending D.C. public schools. While attending Spingarn High School, George excelled as a scholar athlete – running track (100-yard dash/meter) and playing baseball serving his team as a distinguished pitcher. His love for sports never waned as evidenced by George becoming an avid golfer and bowler. Also, while in high school his true nature for being a people person became more evident when he, and life-long friends Gerald Lucas, Walter Harris, Billy Smith, Harold Morehead, Tyrone Ferguson, Norman Yates, Jimmy Hamm, Ronald Coplen, Earl Mayo, Ronald Brown and Joe Goode started their own fraternity Pau Sigma Chi Lamda (True Scholars, Athletes & Lovers). Though George did not graduate from high school due to familial responsibilities, his passion and commitment for education persisted. That persistence prompted George to earn his GED. Despite not earning a bachelor's degree, George took a leap of faith and applied to a master's degree program at the State University of New York at Stony Brook. George's faith paid off as he was accepted and went on to earn a Master's in Social Work degree on December 20, 1975.

In 1968, through his life-long friend Walter Harris, George met Patricia Pitts. They fell in love and were united in holy matrimony on April 11, 1970. He brought to the union son Vincent and lovely daughter Faith. Ten years later, their family grew with the birth of Shannan and four years later, Kelli was born.

George first gave his heart to the Lord in 1988 and ten years later was called to ministry. He was ordained Elder at the National Church of God in Fort Washington, Maryland in 2001. His ministry training took place under and with Dr. T. L. Lowery, Bishop Fletcher Wright and Reverend Walter Straughan at the National Church of God. While at the Church of God, he ministered as part of Bishop Wright's prayer team, and Rev. Straughan's healing class/Bible study. He also ministered with Bishop Wright and his wife Cathy at the Clinton Aglow meetings. These opportunities contributed to George's faith growing exponentially, his understanding of the Word, and expanded his knowledge of the Holy Spirit. George was called out of the Church of God to the Pennsville/Salem area of New Jersey. His awesome journey with the Lord led his ministerial work in New Jersey to include bible study in a family member's home, and services at the Hampton Inn in Pennsville. It was at the Hampton Inn that God began to fulfill his plan during services where the power of God was evident.

After a year, the Lord moved George and Pat to Harvest Time Worship Center, as part of the body. Pastor Pace served as the Associate Pastor of Harvest Time Worship Center from October 2008 to October 2010. By November 2010 George was installed as Senior Pastor of Harvest Time Ministries where he served faithfully until the onset of sudden illness in May 2019.

George held several positions throughout his life including construction and brick work in high school, the United Planning Organization, Department of Health Education & Welfare (Personnel Management Specialist), Public Health Service (Personnel Management Specialist) and he was a self-taught software engineer. George worked 28 years for the Federal Government serving as an Administrative Officer at the National Institutes of Health, retiring in 1996. George had many hobbies including watching his beloved Washington Redskins and tennis, fishing, bowling, popping popcorn, golf, computers and watching Star Trek. His greatest love was serving the Lord, spending time with his family and working with youth. His laugh was infectious, and his barbeque was legendary. George developed a special love for working with youth early in his career and God anointed him to connect with children in ways that educated, empowered and liberated them. His passion for working with youth in the community led him to start Salem Striders Track Club in 2012. Striders is an AAU (Amateur Athletic Union) team for ages 5 – 18 year-old community youth. His commitment to the track club resulted in Pastor Pace being honored by the Salem County Martin Luther King, Jr. Scholarship Foundation, Inc. in January of 2018.

George leaves to cherish his memory – his wife of 49 years, Patricia; four children Vincent (Maricar) of Kissimee, FL; Faith Hughes (William) of Waldorf, MD; Shannan Forman (Willie) of Pennsville, NJ; and Kelli Wade (Anthony) of Glen Burnie, MD; five siblings – Maudie Mae Ashe of Atlanta, GA; James Pace (Gail) of Clinton, MD; Andrea Pace of Purcellville, VA; John Pace (Sheryl) of Stafford, VA; and Natasha Pace (Derek Clifton); fourteen grandchildren: Danielle, Antonio, Jahselyn, Jazmin, Diamond, Kristina, Vincent Jr., Chanee', Jeremiah, Michael, Nia, Jordan, Janiyah, Willie IV (Bobby); eleven great-grandchildren, five sisters-in-law, two brothers-in-law, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents A.D. and Theresa Pace, and two sisters Norma Pace and Carolyn Pace.
