George Still,
Sr.
May 5, 1944 – January 25, 2023
George Still Sr. 78 years old was born to Joseph and Evangelist Mary Ella (Freeman) Still on May 5, 1944, in Vineland, NJ. On Wednesday, January 25, 2023, he was called back to the Creator while at Inspira Medical Center here in Vineland. As a child, he was dedicated to the Lord at New Bethel AME Church, Vineland, NJ. George was educated in the Vineland Public Schools and also attended Glassboro State College, now named Rowan University, Glassboro, NJ.
George served in the United States Army from 1961–1973. His tours of duty included Fort Benning, Georgia; Fort Belvoir, Virginia; Fort Dix, New Jersey, and Vietnam. He was a proud soldier and sometimes brought home his military buddies to meet his family.
He was employed for 28 years by Elwyn of NJ as a Duty Officer, Senior Enrichment Instructor and UAW Advocate. George ultimately retired in 2011. George cultivated friends and cared for all he came in contact with throughout the years. He was an avid pool player and card enthusiast. He enjoyed playing Bingo and would often find several places to play in one night. To some, he was known as "Georgie Boy, Uncle Georgie Boy," and to the younger generation, they called him, "The Uncle with the ponytail." George Jr. said while living or being in Baltimore, the people there called him "Ponytail." Most importantly, he loved his family and demonstrated it by attending functions where any of them would be. Every Still's Day whether in Vineland or Lawnside, George was in the midst. He and his son, George Jr. had their own table set up ready for a good card game.
George leaves to cherish his memory, his dedicated and faithful son, George Jr. (Janene Michelle (Shelley); daughters, Turina Lynette and Mary Eugenia (Gina); nine grandchildren, Kevin, Brandon, Shawanna, Alisha, Sophia, Justus, Allen, Makhi and Seth; sister-in-law, Creola Still; brother-in-law, Rev. George Beachum; a host of nieces, nephews, grand, great grand and great-great grand nieces and nephews, cousins, a very special lady friend, Cheryl Pierce; coworkers and friends.
George was predeceased by his parents, Joseph and Evangelist Mary Ella Still, all of his twelve brothers and sisters, daughter, Rayna Still, grandson, Darius Cother and his former wife and friend, Johnnie Mae Still.
