Godfrey L Horn's Obituary

Godfrey Lenard Horn was born on July 2, 1959 in Bridgeton, NJ to the late Willie James Horn and Susanna Minnis Horn. Godfrey was educated in the Bridgeton Public School System.

At the age of seventeen Godfrey joined the United States Army and was stationed in Germany for two years. During his years in the Army, Godfrey studied hard and received a G.E.D. (General Education Diploma/ High School Equivalent). After his two-year term, he was honorably discharged and returned home to Bridgeton. Once Godfrey returned to Bridgeton, he worked at a variety of jobs around the city. He was a loyal and faithful volunteer at the Bridgeton Hospital for several years, serving wherever he was needed. It was there that he developed his interest in serving humanity. Godfrey matriculated at Cumberland County College in Vineland, NJ where he received an Associate Degree with Honors. While at CCC he served on the Board of Directors as a student representative and was recognized at a luncheon hosted by the Governor of NJ for his exemplary leadership and academic achievement.

In 1998, Godfrey worked at Kintoc a half-way facility for men in transition which was his first professional experience in the social service field. Godfrey moved to New York City in 2012 and gained employment with the Jericho Project. A short time later, he enrolled in Lehman University and graduated in 2014, having obtained with Honors a Bachelor of Science Degree in Social Work. His pursuit of continued academic excellence led him to enter the graduate school at Lehman for a Master of Science Degree in Social Work. Godfrey earned this degree, like his other degrees, with Honors in May, 2015. After receiving his MSW Godfrey successfully passed the New York State Licensing Exam becoming a Licensed Clinical Master Social Worker/ Therapist. Godfrey finally landed his dream job at the Start Treatment and Recovery Center in NYC where he was employed as a Clinical Master Social Worker/Therapist from 2016 until his death.

Godfrey was a God-fearing Christian man who loved the Lord Our Savior Jesus Christ. He was caring and charitable and touched many lives along the way. He wholeheartedly gave of himself in every capacity, whether it was money, counseling or a referral. He had the heart of a servant.

Godfrey loved his children and grandchildren unconditionally. They were very near and dear to his heart. Spending time with them topped his list. Godfrey loved family and looked forward to family gatherings. He responded to every announcement or invitation; weddings, cook-outs, birthday celebrations, graduations, family reunions or the Bethune-Cookman University vs Florida A&M University Classic with "I already made my reservations." Godfrey also enjoyed traveling whether by land, air or sea. He liked meeting people, sharing ideas, food and cultural life. He lived the life he loved and loved the life he lived. He felt there was no other place on earth like New York City. He absolutely loved NYC especially Harlem because of the presents of the rich African American history, culture and the Arts. Godfrey would say, "you haven't lived until you've been to Harlem."

On Tuesday, April 28, 2020 at the Montefiore Medical Center in Bronx, NY. Godfrey Lenard Horn departed this life to rest and be with the Lord. He was preceded in death by his father, Willie James Horn; his mother, Susanna Minnis Horn; and brother-in-law, Thomas Hollingsworth El.
