Green Henry
Harper Jr.

Green Henry Harper, Jr. was born on February 16, 1929, on Academy Street in Bridgeton, New Jersey. He was born to the late Green Henry Harper, Sr. and Margaret (Norwood) Harper. Green was always surrounded by loving family members and from which he made a host of fun-loving moments, laughs and memories.
Early in his life Green Henry Harper, Jr. attended the Gouldtown and Deerfield Public Schools. He later moved to Ashland, Kentucky where he attended school briefly before moving to Lenior, North Carolina. During this time, it was recalled by his nephew Howard Mason, Jr., that Green's job was to beat the drum every Sunday to alert the community that the Tabernacle Church Service was about to begin. Green participated in track and football during his school years.. Green graduated from Freedman High School in Lenior. When Green returned to Bridgeton, NJ he met the love of his life, Bertha May (Williams) Harper. Their union was established through marriage, when Green was twenty three years old, on December 20, 1952, in Bridgeton, NJ, and lasted for 66 years. Green and Bertha moved from Bridgeton when they built a home in Fairton, NJ where they raised their three children: Gary Harper, Sr., Vanessa Foreman and Gregory Harper.
Green Henry Harper, Jr. was drafted into the United States Army where he served in the Korean War's 3rd Infantry Division at the Rock of the Marne. Green was honorably discharged from the armed forces and was joyfully rejoined with his family . Green Henry Harper, Jr. was recognized as a member of the Veterans of Foreign War.
Upon his return home he obtained his Commercial Drivers License and was employed by Cross Transportation before accepting a position at the LoBiondo Trucking Company. During his years as a truck driver, Green Henry Harper, Jr. was a committed member of the Teamsters Union 676. Green's main priority was his family. He could be seen cooking for hours just to invite family and friends over for holiday meals or cookouts. Everyone that knew him knew that he had a heart for his family and friends as evidenced by his continual devotion to them and by the many ways he extended himself to help them when it was needed. He also supported his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren by attending school and athletic events. Green was the Philadelphia Eagles biggest fan.
Green Henry Harper, Jr. departed from this life on 16 May 2020, surrounded by his family in his home in Fairton, NJ. He was preceded in death by his wife Bertha May Harper, his parents Green Henry Harper, Sr. and Margaret (Norwood) Harper, by his sister Virginia Mason Debnam and his brother Hilliard Jackson. He leaves to mourn his children Gary Harper, Sr.(Geneva Harper), Vanessa Foreman and Gregory Harper(Tisha Harper). Green will truly be missed by his grandchildren, great grandchildren, great great grandchild, nieces, nephews, cousins and a host of close friends and relatives.
