Reed, Jr.
June 8, 1939 – July 16, 2022
Henry Richard Reed Jr. departed this life on Saturday, July 16, 2022, at the age of 83, while in Salem Medical Center, Salem, NJ.
Henry received his education in the public school system of Penns Grove, NJ. He was an outstanding athlete in high school, participating in football, baseball, and track. After graduating high school, he furthered his education by attending Salem Community College. He graduated with an Associate degree in Applied Science.
Henry was an avid weightlifter with the Iron Knights organization, where he won many awards and trophies. Henry married Margaret Taylor (known as Peggy) in 1962 from this union, and they had two children, Joseph Wesley Reed, and Veronica Reed.
Henry was employed at Dupont Chambers Works in Deepwater, NJ, for several years. Leaving there, he went to work for UAW Daimler Chrysler Corporation in Newark, DE. He worked as an electrician on the auto car assembly line. He retired from Chrysler with Twenty-five years of service in July 2006.
Henry was a licensed electrician. He owned and operated his business called Reed's Electrical. Henry was involved in community affairs. He was a member of Pride of Penns Grove Lodge #1342 Margaret H. Smith Temple 972. He held the position of Exalted Ruler for many years.
He loved working in the lodges, visiting other lodges, and working in the community. Henry managed the Highlanders Social Club for ten years. He loved and respected his siblings. Henry was an avid newspaper reader; he loved game shows and going to the casino. Henry loved his family; he was very encouraging to his grandchildren, always talking to them about the importance of good work ethics and stressed getting an education.
Preceding Henry in death were his parents, Henry and Helen Reed, and sisters Ruby Robinson and Roxanna Robinson, brother Timothy Reed, and nephew, Keenen Tyler Reed.
Henry leaves to cherish his memories of his wife, Margaret (Peggy) Reed; son, Joseph Wesley Reed (Margaret); daughter, Veronica Reed; 3 grandchildren, Wesley Richard Reed, Joseph Wesley Reed Jr., Serena LaShay Reed; 2 great-grandchildren, Lacyir Reed and Mia Reed, step-grandson, Brandon Frazier; five brothers, Leroy Reed (Shirley), Reginald Reed (Marsha), Randy Reed, Kenneth Reed, Cheyenne Reed (Felicia); one sister, Donna Blalock (Gary), a host of nieces and nephews, and a lifelong friend, Bernard Smith. Henry has touched many lives, and his memories will be cherished.
