Herman L. Love's Obituary

On Saturday, May 29, 2021, the Lord called Herman Edward Love home to be with him.

Herman Love was born in Danville, Virginia to the late Lee and Bertha Love (Farrell). Herman was one of four children. He is preceded by siblings, Robert Lee Chism (Ernestine), Mitchell Love (Essie Love), Vicente Perrone (Samuel Perrone). His Father Lee Love died at a young age leaving his mother Bertha to raise he and his three siblings. The family moved from Danville, Virginia to Philadelphia, Pennsylvania and they lived in the Richard Allen Housing Projects and attended the Philadelphia school districts. At the age of 18, Herman joined the Army and would find himself in the Koran War. After the war, Herman landed a job as a repairman at a radio and television shop and would earn extra money fixing electrical
items for neighbors and this is where he would learn his dream to become an engineer.

In 1953, he met and married Josephine Dorr but would divorce a year later. Herman moved to Atlantic City then met Ellease Everette in 1956, they were married in 1957 until her demise in 1989. The married couple returned to Philadelphia and she encouraged Herman to attend Temple University Engineering program but then put his degree on hold as he was offered a job at RCA in Camden, New Jersey where he worked from 1959 – 1962. In 1962, Herman landed a Computer Engineer position with Control Data and would find himself working on government contracts with the Air Force and Army. As an engineer with the Control Data Corporation (CDC), Herman would travel to Greenland, Norway, South Africa, Asia, Alaska, Canada, Hawaii, and many states within the United States. The family moved back to New Jersey and Herman would continue working at Control Data in Warminster until retiring in 1995. In 1992, he would meet and marry Olga Arvelo where they lived in Pennsauken, Merchantville then retired in Vineland, New Jersey.

Herman Love always shared war stories or the different cultural experiencing of the many places he had traveled. He loved reading, visiting the flea markets, offering words of wisdom, showing kindness, liked learning something new and teaching others especially computer technology. He always taught the importance of treating, respecting, and accepting people for who they are, their character. From 1972-1990, Herman volunteered at Sacred Heart Church (Camden) every Thanksgiving and Christmas to distribute food baskets to the needy and attended mass.
Herman leaves his cherished memories to his devoted wife Olga of 29 years; the blended families, Dianne Young-El (deceased), Joanne Perkins (Saint), Valerie Love-Drayton (James), Cynthia Love, Benny Gascot (Darlene), Brenda Robinson (Bill), An'drea Love-Cook (Eric), Ronald Bonilla (Patricia D); sister-in-law Estrella Cruz; grandchildren, great grandchildren, great-great grandchildren, nieces, nephews and cousins and a host of special friends. Herman was called Dad, Pop, Grandpop, Pop-Pop, and Uncle Herman. He will always be remembered for his kind-hearted, warm spirit and his laugh.
