Obituary

JAMAR MAURICE BYRD, JR., affectionately known as JB, was born on June 14, 2009, in Vineland, New Jersey, to Victoria E. Allen and Jamar M. Byrd, Sr.

JB spent his early years in Vineland, New Jersey, where he was lovingly raised by his grandparents, Jackie Holmes and Calvin Holmes. He attended Vineland Public Schools from the age of 3 through 14 and grew into a kind, energetic, and talented young man who touched the lives of everyone around him.

From an early age, Jamar had a passion for sports. He played football in the Vineland City Little League for two seasons before deciding to try baseball at the age of 10. His athleticism quickly became evident as he helped lead South Vineland to a championship appearance and, the following year, celebrated a championship victory with North Vineland Community Little League. His incredible speed on the field earned him the nickname "Wheelz," as he could outrun just about anyone and steal bases with ease.

In addition to sports, Jamar enjoyed playing basketball, dancing, and spending quality time with his family. Family vacations were always the highlight of his summers, and whether it was a game night, a sleepover, or simply gathering together, JB treasured every moment spent with those he loved. He had a heart that naturally brought people together and made everyone around him feel special. More than anything, JB loved being surrounded by his family and friends.

This September, Jamar would have entered the 12th grade. He had a growing passion for cooking and often talked about becoming a chef one day. Anyone who knew him also knew how much he loved good food and enjoyed sharing meals with the people he cared about most.

Jamar had also considered joining the Air Force after graduation. While his future plans were still taking shape, he approached life with excitement, hope, and endless possibilities.

After stepping away from football for several years, Jamar made the exciting decision to return to the sport for his senior year by joining the Bridgeton Bulldogs football team for the 2026-2027 school year. He dedicated himself to preparing for the season by spending time in the weight room, building his strength, endurance, and confidence. His coaches were excited about his remarkable speed and envisioned him playing key positions where his athletic ability could shine. JB was looking forward to the opportunities that lay ahead and embracing everything his senior year had to offer.

Sadly, Jamar's life was tragically cut short, leaving behind countless dreams, talents, and a future filled with endless possibilities. While his time on earth was far too brief, the love he gave, the joy he brought to others, and the memories he created will live on forever in the hearts of all who knew and loved him. Though his journey ended too soon, his spirit, his smile, and the impact he made on his family and friends will never be forgotten. His legacy of love will continue to live on through those who cherish him, forever and always.

Jamar is lovingly remembered by his father, Jamar M. Byrd Sr.; his paternal grandparents, Jackie Holmes and Calvin Holmes of Vineland, New Jersey; his sisters, Julianna Byrd and Joanna Byrd of Colorado; his siblings, Omari Byrd, Jamarion Byrd, Princess Byrd, and Jazarah Byrd of Bridgeton, New Jersey; his aunts, Kametia Miles and Kareemah Miles of Bridgeton, New Jersey, and Julia Holmes of Vineland, New Jersey; his uncle, Julius Holmes of Vineland, New Jersey; and a host of great-aunts, cousins, extended family members, and dear friends.

Jamar was preceded in death by his beloved mother, Victoria E. Allen Turner. He is also lovingly remembered by his maternal grandparents, Cora Allen and Norman Allen Jr.; his siblings, Laxaysia Taylor and Laxman Taylor Jr. of Bear, Delaware, and Myla Moorc of Roswell, New Mexico; along with a host of great-aunts, cousins, extended family members, and friends who will forever cherish his memory.

Though JB's time with us was far too short, the love he shared, the laughter he brought, and the memories he created will remain in the hearts of those who knew him for generations to come. He will be deeply loved, forever remembered, and truly missed--forever and a day.
