Janey Mae McClendon departed this life and went home to be with the Lord on Friday, October 20, 2023. She was born on July 2, 1951 to the late James McClendon and Lessie Mae McClendon.
Janey graduated from Bridgeton High School in 1969. For many years she worked for Owens Illinois. She later was a school bus driver for Sheppard Bus Company and then a crossing guard for Bridgeton Sheriff department.
Janey was a member of New Hope Baptist Church of Cedarville, NJ for many years. She served as an usher.
Janey enjoyed spending time with family and friends. She was well known in the neighborhood because of her love of people. She enjoyed her garden and decorating for all holidays. She made the best candy apples in town.
Janey is survived and cherished by her longtime partner of 41 years Johnnie Artis, son Randell McClendon, daughter Jakia Artis both of Bridgeton, granddaughter Dayleishea McClain, Shakeira Macintosh, Amirah Williams, Tonay Brown-McClendon, grandsons Randell McClendon Jr,, Christian Artis and Cardell Mcclendon. Along with siblings Lessie Hicks of Bridgeton, Willie McClendon of Vineland, Ola McClendon of Bridgeton, Pearl Baker of Minotola, Terri McClendon of Louisville, KY, Brother-in-law George Hicks, sister-in-law Lyshiron McClendon and a host of nieces and nephews that loved her dearly.
Janey was preceded in death by her sister Mary Covington of Baltimore, MD Janey will be remembered for her kindness and willingness to help others.
