Jean Elizabeth Smith, of Pennsville, New Jersey went to be with the Lord and her twin sister on October, 15, 2022. Jean came into the world with her womb mate, Joan, on March 27, 1933. She was born to Marie (Giles) Gibson and was adopted by Leonard Gibson. Jean was raised in Claysville which sits on the outskirts of Salem. She attended grade school from K-8th at the Claysville Schoolhouse where she often said, "There was one teacher for all of us." Upon completion of 8th grade Jean attended Salem High School where she enjoyed playing field hockey. Jean had numerous jobs, but found her calling in nursing. She gained her LPN in 1972 from Salem Community College, for which she used for 20 years until deciding that she would like to go back to school to get her RN. Jean graduated from Delaware Technical Community College in 1992 with an Associates Degree in Nursing. Jean worked at numerous nursing homes, Riverside Hospital, Christiana Hospital, and Salem Memorial Hospital just to name a few.
Jean was very active in her childhood church of New Jerusalem. It was here where Jean learned the foundation and principles of following the Lord. As an adult, Jean served on the Usher Board, Willing Workers, Senior Choir and was known for throwing the Four Seasons and Golden 80's parties for church goers. Currently, she is a member of Mt. Zion Baptist Church.
Jean was preceded by her mother Marie Gibson and her twin sister Joan H. Davis. She leaves behind her children; Marsha Gresham of Carney's Point, NJ, Edward (Ma-Lyn) Smith of Johnstown, PA, Joy Smith of Wilmington, DE, and Misty (Mike) Pearson of Middletown, DE. Her grandchildren Stacey (Joe) Turner, Ciara (Michael) McManus,vStephanie Martin, Cydney (Quran)Towels, Curryn Henry, Mikey Pearson III, Journee Pearson and Mathai Pearson. Four great-grandchildren; Zaire Robinson, Nasir Robinson, Mya Gregory, Tyaire Martin. Two great-great grandchildren Zaire Robinson, Jr. and Lexington Towels. Upon the passing of Joan, Jean became not only Aunt Jean but like a second mother to *Jacqueline (Jackie) Martin, Arthur Martin, Leah (Eddie) Coffield, Robert Davis, and Kristi (Marc) Armstead. She also leaves behind a host of cousins, nieces and nephews to cherish her memory.
Jean was called by many names, Twin, Jean-Joan, Aunt Jean, Grand mom Jean, Mom-Mom, and most importantly Mom to which she will surely be missed.
