Jeanne Bertha Coursey, 86 was called home to be in the arms of the Lord, May 23, 2024. Jeanne was born May 20, 1938 in Bridgeton, N J. She was the Daughter of the late Herman C. Crawford and the late Sara Pierce Crawford and the wife of the late Edward Eugene Coursey, Sr.
Jeanne has been a lifelong resident of Bridgeton, she was educated in the Bridgeton Public School System, graduated High School and began a career with Prudential Insurance Company. She later, was employed at the Cumberland County Juvenile Detention Center where she retired in 2010 after 35 years of service.
Jeanne attended Mount Zion A.M.E. Church since she was a child. She was a member of the Chirpers Choir, Junior Choir and the young adult choir. She enjoyed cooking, serving members and guests of the church with the other "Fabulous Five" coined by Reverend Robert Sheppard, consisted of Edward and Jeanne Coursey, Eddie and Barbara Williams and Eugene Hill.
Jeanne enjoyed spending time with her Family, hosting meals at her home and eating at many of the buffets in the area. She enjoyed shopping with her Sisters, Barbara and Kitty. She and her Sister, Barbara loved their outings to Cowtown, the Flea market and Dollar stores. If you wanted to know where to buy something, just ask the expert, Jeanne.
Jeanne is predeceased by her parents, Herman Crawford, Sr. and Sara Pierce Crawford, her husband, Edward E. Coursey, Sr. her siblings, Herman "Hank" Crawford, Lorraine "Kitty" Crawford, Romaine "Duke" Crawford, Harold "Tickie" Crawford, and Barbara C. Crawford. Jeanne's legacy and memories are entrusted to her Son, Edward E. Coursey, Jr, her Grand Daughter, Jami Coursey Ridgway, Grandsons, Ryan Coursey and Desmond Coursey, Great Grand Children, Aaliyah Nicholson, Jeremiah Harris, Terrell Harris, Julius Coursey, one Uncle, David Pierce, two Sister In Laws and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and loving friends.
Jeanne will be remembered for her hard exterior, but extremely loving heart. She had a quick wit, a dry humor and liked being the "Boss". She will be forever missed, but never forgotten.
