Joan Byers Walker, a wife, mother, grandmother, aunt and sister left this world after a courageous fight with cancer on July 3, 2024, at the age of 73. Joan Byers was born September 17, 1950, in Asbury Park, NJ to the late Edith and Parker Byers. She was the wife of Theory Walker.

In 1961 the Byers family migrated to Bridgeton, NJ from Asbury Park and Joan attended Bridgeton High School graduating with the Class of 1971. Joan worked in the kitchen at a bowling alley in North Carolina for many years. She enjoyed life and having fun with her family and friends. Joan was never shy of words and never thought twice about speaking whatever was on her mind.

She leaves to cherish many fond and precious memories for her four children, Dana, Alfred, Ronny and Edith (John) Chestnut; stepchildren, Theory and Gladys Walker; 13 grandchildren, 20 great grandchildren, 3 great great-grandchildren; sister, Martenia Cupe; god children, Shimona Walker, Sade Tiggett, Nikki Mason and Nase F. Bryant and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

She was predeceased by her sister Theresa Byers Mosley, grandson George Simpson III and good friend Linda Gault.
