Joe L. Green, 84, of Millville, NJ passed away peacefully on Monday, June 24, 2024 at 5:01pm.
Joe was born March 30, 1940 in Demark, South Carolina to the late Rious and Elizzilla (Banks) Green. He attended primary school in Demark, SC before moving to Newport, NJ in 1958.
Joe's career was active throughout New Jersey. He started out as a dredger working in Maurice River Township to beautify the Delaware Bay. Later, he worked as a truck driver for Spinelli. His most beloved career choice was as a construction worker for Local 415 and Local 77 in Atlantic City and Ewing, NJ, respectively. During that time, he was one of the first construction workers to lay the foundation for the Millville Post Office and Cumberland County College, now known as Rowan University.
Joe was a Special Deacon at Miracle Temple Church of God in Christ for over 25 years. His service to the church went beyond Sundays to ensure the church was always a priority in his life.
Besides being a dedicated Philadelphia Eagles fan, Joe was an avid fisherman and hunter. His love for wild game was truly unmatched.
Joe was married to Betty J. Brent and from that union, birthed one daughter, Joanne Brent.
Joe later married Julia "Barbara" Howard on September 25, 1982 and cherished her until her passing on July 11, 2015. They enjoyed 49 beautiful years together and are now reunited in eternity.
Left to cherish his memories are his daughter, Joanne Brent (Leon Harden) of Millville, NJ, granddaughter, Tabrianna Harden (Justin McClung) of Greensboro, NC, granddaughter, Raniya Roscoe of Bridgeton, NJ, one aunt, Janie Lou McCollum of Raleigh, NC, two brothers, James Banks (Linda Banks) of Baltimore, MD and Harvey Green of Myrtle Beach, SC, five sisters, Margaret Brown of Vineland, NJ, Mattie Carr (Frank Carr) of Halifax, VA, Riva Green of Millville, NJ, Roberta Green of Millville, NJ, and Yvonne Harris (Wellington Harris) of Stone Mountain, GA, lifelong friends, Norman "Shocky Doc" Riley, Lester Collins, and Earl Brittingham, as well as a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
Joe was predeceased by his loving wife, Julia "Barbara" Green, parents, Rious and Elizzilla Green, two brothers, Rious Jr. and Otis Green, and three sisters, Lula, Luvenia, and Carrie Green.
He will truly be missed.
