John Fitzgerald Williams's Obituary

John Fitzgerald Williams, son of Jethro Brown and Anna Mae "Lucy" Williams was born August 9, 1972 in Bridgeton, NJ.

John received his High School Diploma from Cumberland Regional High School, Class of 1991. He was last employed by Elwyn of New Jersey as a Direct Care Supervisor.  John was well known for his sense of humor, his big smile and witty comebacks. A true Comedian. He brought life to every setting. He was fun. He was wise. He was caring. He was genuine. He was a companion, a father, a stepfather, a grandfather, a son, a brother, a cousin, an uncle, a friend and a Godfather.

John carried a great energy with him. He was the life of any party, he had a way of even making you laugh at yourself, if you happened to be the butt of the joke. He enjoyed going new places, he loved a great adventure, listening to music was a favorite pastime, cooking for family gatherings, spending time with loved ones and in his younger years, playing basketball, his favorite moves were the "Head Fake" and the "Stop & Pop", as the guys affectionately called them. His favorite all-time team was the Philadelphia Eagles, whom he wore with pride.

In 2014, John was accepted by Pastor Charles E. Wilkins as a part of the Board of Trustees at the Bethel A.M.E Church in Millville, NJ, where he attended regularly for years after.  On Saturday, June 20, 2020, our Heavenly Father, called John home to rest from his 4-year battle with cancer. During this courageous fight he often encouraged others through their everyday struggles and battles, he did this through words, posts and texts, not just those closely attached, but a very large, extended family/audience via the Facebook forum. He showed others how to never give up, despite the circumstance(s), always through faith, a true warrior at heart. His favorite saying being: Love is Love.

Predeceased by His mother Anna Mae "Lucy" Williams: His father, Jethro Brown; His maternal grandmother, Marie Duncan; His maternal grandfathers, Willie Duncan and Field Gregory; His uncle, Edward "Pootney" Gregory.

He leaves to cherish his precious memory: His companion of six years, Denise Rivera; His children, daughter, Tobhiyah "Beanie" Slaney and son, John "Isaiah" Slaney; His stepfather, Bruce Mills; His brother, Christopher Burch, Sr.; His sisters, Tianna Telfair, Tracey Matthews and several others; His step-children, Keya, Dashon, Tash, Mikey, Davon, Des, Zie and Jazaya; His grandson, Azai Slaney-Witt (affectionately called by him: Zai Boogie) and granddaughter, Mireya Slaney-Hart (affectionately called by him: Reya); His best friend of 35 years, Wes Spriggs (Tina); His Cousin (Closest/Like a brother), Jeffrey Mills; His Godsons', Joshua Rogers, Jericho Slaney and Cameron Spriggs and many other family members and friends.

My flesh and my heart may fall, but God is the strength of my heart and my portion forever.
