Johnnie L. Nelson's Obituary

JOHNNIE L. NELSON SR. known as Junk Yard, a beloved father, grandfather, and friend, peacefully went home to be with the Lord on January 11, 2026, after a life marked by hard work, faith, and family. He was born on November 26, 1956, to James Nelson and Lula Nelson Harper.

Johnnie attended Bridgeton Public High School, where he earned his high school diploma. In 1979 he worked as a bricklayer, joining Union 415, and dedicated 23 years to his craft. He retired in 2006 due to an injury, but his passion for building and helping others remained evident in all he did.

Johnnie found joy in many simple pleasures: junking, fishing, shopping, cooking "fried chicken". Above all, he cherished time spent with his grandchildren, who brought him immeasurable happiness and pride.

Left to honor his memory are his daughter, Jennifer L. Nelson of Gouldtown, two sons, Stephen R. Stephenson of Bridgeton and Johnnie Nelson Jr. of Gouldtown. He is also survived by six grandsons: Stephen Stephenson Jr. and Kamari Stephenson, Jamir Dixon, Maurice Johnson IV, Johnnie III, J'my, and Jonah Nelson. Four granddaughters: Cahe Johnson, Nichole Randolph, Jasani and Jenazia Nelson. One Brother, James A. Nelson of Bridgeton. One sister, Alice Mcgee of Atlanta, Ga. A special cousin, Ines Coney, along with a host of nieces, nephews, great nieces, nephew, cousins, and a circle of friends.

Johnnie was preceded by his parents James Nelson and Lula Nelson Harper. Two brothers, Ricky and Oscar Nelson. One sister Alfi.a Ann Nelson. Two sisters in laws, Dorothy Nelson and Rose Nelson. One brother-in-law Bobby Mcgee.

He will be deeply missed by all who knew him
