Joshua C.
Carter
September 11, 1995 – September 17, 2022
Joshua Caleb Carter was born on September 11, 1995, and a graduate of Lancaster High School, Lancaster, SC. At the age of 3.5, he was adopted by Howard and Gwen Carter and was a welcome addition to the family of three at that time. After being with family for a month there would be another addition to the family in which Joshua was happy because he wanted a brother but instead, he got a sister. Then there were three children in one year. He had one more chance for a brother with his mom's next pregnancy, but it was another girl. So, Josh had a plan to make the girls tough so that he would feel like he had a brother which I think backfired on him later. Because they would wrestle him down to the ground and he couldn't handle all three at one time. Josh loved to read and collected many series books and was a big fan of "Star Wars". He loved to play baseball and he even tried football but baseball was his passion. He loved to go with his dad off road driving in the truck in all that mud. Although Josh was a difficult child to raise, we always tried to love him out of every situation. Some may never know or understand the challenges that we faced with Josh on a daily basis. And when Josh decided that he wasted to explore other things and make choices for himself life started happening in a different way for him. Even with that we were always there for him. He was supposed to come back to SC in July but never made it.
We are always going to remember his crazy laugh and his random conversations about anything. How he broke his wrist trying to do a push up with his sisters on his back. His mom is going to miss him scratching her head! All of the wrestling matches and wandering in the woods with Tweetie looking for frogs or whatever they were looking for. Making Sweet pea tough because he made her believe she was really knocking him down and didn't need to play with dolls. Countless debates with Michelle over everything. And just the fact that his dad had a son was a great thing for Howard. Josh was always loved by his family, aunts, uncles and cousins and was never treated like he wasn't a true Carter. Joshua decided that he wanted to find his biological family and was first united with his brother Basheer in 2015 and then the rest of the family.
Joshua left this life on September 16 in Newark, NJ He was preceded in death by his grandparents: Nevis and Hazel Carter, Elroy Bulluck & Alice Howard & Victor Lopez. He has left to cherish his memories, his parents Howard and Gwen Carter, sisters Michelle, Renee and Janelle Carter. His aunts Virginia Battle (John) of Georgia, Elaine Henry of Maryland, Thelma Harcum of NJ, Jean (Joe) Rainner of FL, Hazel Carter of NJ, Lena (Ned) Johnson of NJ. His uncles Nevis Carter of Canada, John (Vergie) of NJ, Beal (Debbie) of VA, Frank (Gerri) of NJ, Wayne (Guilia) of NJ, Herbert Carter of NJ and his uncle Jessie decreased (Christine) from Ga. And a host of cousins.
Joshua was a member of Miracle tabernacle International Ministries where he was raised in the things of the Lord and will be missed by his pastors Apostle Theron & Kathy Feemster and the entire church family.
Because Joshua reunited with his biological family, he has left to cherish his memories: his Father Barry Hollis Rogers (Tracey) of NC, his mother Stacy Dixon of NJ, his grandmother Gwen Dixon, great aunt Linda Washington. His siblings: Jamar, Marcees, Khalil, Basheer, Balil, Shanicee and Shatemah, host of aunts and uncles: Craig Rogers (Laurie), Kelly Rogers (Henry), Holly Rogers, Laquan Williams.
