Juanita Ruth DeShields 74, was born April 24, 1951, at Newcomb Hospital in Vineland, New Jersey. She was the beloved daughter to the late Boyd and Ruth Williams Sr. Juanita passed away unexpectedly on March 31, 2026.
Juanita graduated from Vineland High School in 1970, marking the beginning of her life dedicated to her family. On January 25, 1975, Juanita united in marriage to the man of her life William S. DeShields Jr. God has blessed her with two beautiful girls, Renee’ DeShields-Bishop and Yolanda Jones.
At a young age, Juanita’s family moved from Brotmanville, NJ to Quince Street in Vineland, NJ where she contributed her fair share of chores which included but are not limited to tending to the garden, sewing her own clothes for school, helping her mother Ruth Williams with the restaurant and her catering business, assisting her father Boyd Williams Sr. with the well-known pool hall on the corner of Almond and Gershal Ave. in Norma, along with her siblings; Rebecca Majors, Boyd Williams Jr., Geraldine Haskins, Terry Young and Patricia Williams.
Juanita attended school at Rowan College of South Jersey Cumberland to further her education from her passion as a CNA to a LPN. Juanita worked at Bayada, Golden Gate, and Lincoln Specialty Care Center. She also was dedicated and enjoyed working for a special needs child for many years.
Juanita had a special place in her heart for her family. She would always make sure their needs were met. She would be your Uber and delivery driver, running you anywhere you needed to go, or picking up whatever it was you needed and bring it to you with grace.
In Juanita’s spare time she loved having family time where all hers and her siblings’ families would gather together at her parents’ house for family fun nights or even held adult nights at her home. She loved to prepare for family vacations, go for long rides, even if it was to nowhere. She enjoyed eating at many different restaurants, especially the buffets and she loved gardening and decorating her yard for each holiday that arises. Doing her downtime, she would spend it watching the cooking channels, especially the Food Network Channel and would write down the recipes for hours on end that looked pleasing to her wanting to try.
Juanita was very good at her favorite hobbies. She loved crocheting, making blankets, hats and scarves. Cooking was her passion, experimenting and preparing different meals each day, along with baking cookies for the holidays.
Juanita had quite a tasteful palate. She loved soul food and Italian food. Pizza being her favorite and she also loved seafood. She enjoyed eating salmon, shrimp and crab cakes, making her want to dance, something she loved to do as well. Juanita enjoyed her life to the fullest.
Juanita was preceded in death by her husband William S. DeShields Jr. and her daughter Renee’ T. DeShields - Bishop.
Juanita leaves to cherish her fond memories her daughter Yolanda Jones, her son-in-law Kevin Jones, stepdaughter Tracy Hayward, sister Rebecca Majors, brother Boyd Williams Jr., granddaughter Tynieka DeShields, grandson Elizah Jones and a host of aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.
