Kathleen L
Bartley
May 30, 1931 – April 27, 2022
Kathleen Letitia Bartley affectionately known as momma, mom, grandma, Gigi, Aunt Kathleen, Auntie K, and Mother Bartley was born on May 30, 1931, in Manchester, Jamaica to loving parents, Stephen Evans and Jane Folkes. Kathleen was born and raised in the District of Halifax, Manchester, Jamaica. She received her formal education from Bethany Primary School and went on to become an Agriculturist and higgler by trade. Kathleen met and fell in love with Sydney Bartley and then in 1962, they were wedded in holy matrimony. From this union, they produced eight children. In 1979, Kathleen migrated to America and stayed with her brother, Stanley W. Myrie in Bridgeton, NJ. Ever a visionary and a hard worker, Kathleen's sole purpose was to bring her family to America for a better life. On her humble wages as a housekeeper she first brought Audrey and Hughon here in 1981. Two years later in April, Claudette, Hopeton, Courtney, and her first grandchild Kadian arrived. Jene and Avril followed in 1987. With her dream being realized, she would go on to help many of her nieces, nephews, other family members and friends to achieve their quest of the American dream.
Following her time as a housekeeper, Kathleen went on to further her education by becoming a Certified Nurse's Assistant. She was employed by South Jersey Extended Care, formerly known as Malloyds, where she retired after 22 years of dedicated service. Before Kathleen came to America, she was a member of The Church of God Prophecy in Manchester, Jamaica. Kathleen later became a member of John Wesley United Methodist Church in Bridgeton, NJ then Miracle Temple COGIC in Millville, NJ. For the last 12 years of her life, she was a faithful member of the Voice of Holiness COGIC under the leadership of her son, Pastor Hopeton Bartley where she served as a faithful and devoted Evangelist and Mother of the Church.
Kathleen cherished and adored her "fambily" and many of her favorite moments were spent with them. Each weekend the family would gather over her home cooked meals followed by a game of dominos, ludi and or bingo. Love, laughter, and memories became the bedrock of those moments. That love was further expressed and magnified with her grandchildren or in her words, "Mi grandpickney them." She loved them fiercely and would go above and beyond to ensure that they wanted for nothing. She enjoyed making hot chocolate and doing crossword puzzles with them. Her other favorite pastimes were cooking, knitting, crocheting, and watching game shows.
Always a fashionista, Kathleen loved to dress up in her beautiful dresses and gowns. Kathleen also enjoyed singing and could be heard singing, "Hand in Hand With Jesus", "Your Grace And Mercy" and "Call Him By His Name" are just a few of her favorite songs.
Kathleen leaves to cherish her memories of five children, Jene (Roger), Audrey, Claudette, Hopeton (Lorna) and Courtney (Leonie) all of Bridgeton, NJ. Kathleen also leaves eleven grandchildren, Kadian (Wasteen), Adjeel, Courtney Jr., Rasheem, Hopelyn, Antionette, Anthony, Joshua, Khaleem, Joshawana, Daidrea and eighteen great grandchildren. In addition, she leaves to treasure her memory a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, dear friends and shared a special bond with Dotlyn Daley, Roy Thompson, Sonia Edwards and Pauline Fearon who she referred to as her "adopted children". She will be greatly missed however she leaves a legacy.
Kathleen was predeceased by her husband Sidney Bartley, two sons, Hughon and Avril and four brothers, Stanley (Mavis), Walter, Leonard and Albert (Violet).
