Kenneth LaVance Greene was born February 8, 1970 in Washington, DC to the late Calvin Jerry Hammonds and the late Mary E. Greene. Kenny was called home suddenly to join them early Friday morning, September 16, 2016. He was a devoted husband, son, son-in-law, father, brother, brother-in-law, uncle, nephew, cousin, and great friend. He married his wife, Nicole Williams on December 7, 2003. From this union three children were born: Kenny (KJ), Ashanti and Ivy. Together, they loved on his oldest son Deonta (his twin).
Kenny was born and raised in the District of Columbia, and was educated in the DC public school system. He attended Aiton Elementary and went on to Kelly Miller Junior High School. He graduated Kelly Miller as Valedictorian, which in turn earned him an academic scholarship to the prestigious college preparatory boarding school, Loomis Chaffee in Windsor, CT. This is where he developed his love for wrestling and his all-around competitive nature. He went on to study psychology at Howard University, and formed many life-long friendships.
Kenny has an extra-large family and enjoyed everyone in it. Family meant everything to him. Even though he didn't get to spend much time with his dad, due to his passing at an early age, Kenny immersed himself fully with both families. Growing up in his grandmother's home with his mother, siblings, aunts and cousins, he learned the meaning of maintaining close relationships. This made Kenny into the man you all learned to love.
Kenny was the true testament of a family man. In 1996, he met his wife Nicole in his hometown, DC. However, when KJ was 2yrs old, Nicole and KJ quickly packed up and moved back to Philadelphia to spend more time with her ailing mother. Believing this was the end of their story, Nicole came home from work a few weeks later and joyfully discovered a U-Haul truck in front of her parents' home with Kenny sitting on the back. He was determined to keep his family together! Together, they decided to establish their roots and raise their family in Oreland, PA. He was a doting dad and would often brag on his children and their athletic abilities. He was a staple at their games and competitions, both near and far. It was common thing to hear him shout WELL ABOVE the crowd.
Kenny's name is synonymous with the term "hard worker", and has never been a stranger to hard work. Right after school, Kenny obtained his CDL and worked long stints as a driver for Miller Brewing Company then Canada Dry Bottling Company. After moving to Pennsylvania in 2000 with Nicole and KJ, he was able to continue his career with the local Canadra Dry Bottling Plant. In 2005, Kenny went through rough training to become one of the brave Volunteer Firefighters in his new home, Oreland, PA. They truly welcomed Kenny and his "can do" attitude whole heartedly. Unfortunately, after obtaining an injury with Canada Dry in 2008, he had to step down as a volunteer. Finally, in 2009, he became a bus driver for the area transportation system, SEPTA. While with SEPTA, he became Employee of the Month a couple of times, received many customer service recognitions from customers, and was recently chosen to transport delegates during the 2016 Democratic National Convention.
Kenny had such a magnetic personality, he could easily draw you into whatever conversation he was having… BECAUSE HE WAS ALWAYS ENGAGED IN ONE! He had the rare ability to relate, listen and genuinely care. He was great listener and an even better talker. He was a die-hard Redskins fan. You would often catch him defending his "Skins" at the local tavern and any other gathering where he felt the need. He didn't care that he was in Eagles territory not one bit. He enjoyed drinking a few beers with family and friends, fishing, sports, and good conversation. However, his last love was body building, eating healthy, and training others to do the same. He has won 27 trophies over the last few years competing in Natural Body Building competitions throughout the east coast!! He recently accomplished his goal of obtaining his "Pro" card. But what stands out most to anybody that knew him... Is that he was just a bona-fide GOOD GUY!
Kenny leaves many loved ones to cherish and celebrate his memory: his loving wife Nicole, sons Deonta and Kenny, and daughters Ashanti & Ivy.
