Lenton T. Browne, Jr.'s Obituary

Lenton Thomas Browne Jr. (Juney) was born on October 10, 1954, in Bridgeton, New Jersey. He was the fourth child of the late Lenton Browne and Lucille (Dantzler) Browne. He departed this life after an extended illness in the Genisis Nursing facility, on Wednesday, June 11, 2025.

Lenton attended the Bridgeton public school system and graduated from Bridgeton High School in 1973. He then attended Glassboro State College. He was attracted to and excelled in the occupations of Iron work and welding and worked on building numerous structures in Philadelphia and New Jersey. He was most proud of his work on the Benjamin Franklin bridge, the trash to steam plant in Camden, the casinos in Atlantic City and the Bridgeton State Office Building. He was grateful to be mentored by Cousin Nathaniel Thomas in welding techniques. Lenton retired from the Iron Workers Local 399 in 2014.

"Like I said…"(one of his favorite sayings),  if you wanted to see him really smile, just bring up the subject of his son, Kyle Browne,  his daughter-in-law, Jennifer Browne, and family, especially his granddaughters Madison and Harper.

"Like I said", if you wanted to hear him talk, really talk, just bring up the subjects of Mommie, his long-term partner, Ana, his childhood friend Eugene Nicholson, fishing, his favorite dog Kareem, cooking, and the "old days" of growing up with family and friends, especially his friends on Vine Street in Bridgeton. In addition to being an excellent cook, he was meticulous in his attire. He was appreciative of his brother Clinton for keeping his hair and beard well-coiffed.

Ana was extremely attentive and instrumental in tending to Lenton's care and wellbeing while he was a resident in the Genesis nursing facility. He looked forward to and counted on her Sunday visits and those strawberry milkshakes, Ginger Ale and Honey Buns.

Lenton was a giving and selfless person. He gave of his time and talents from acts as simple as cleaning and giving away fish he caught to, on one occasion while welding on the Benjamin Franklin bridge, jumping into the Delaware River to save the life a man who had fallen in.

Lenton was the man in the middle because he was both little brother and big brother at the same time. He spent quality time with his younger brothers Clinton and Michael, and his younger sister Poulinia when they were young and at the same time doted over his older sisters Tina, Ollievita, and Juanita (Brytt).

Lenton took pride in and bragged about the accomplishments of his family and friends to anyone who would listen. He was a great son, brother, friend, companion, uncle, cousin, father, grandfather and mentor who shared love and wisdom that will carry on beyond his final days.

Lenton was predeceased by his mother Lucille, father Lenton, his sister Brytt, his brother-in-law Marvin Sills, his nephew Jeffery Williams and his half-sister Donna Hamlet. Lenton leaves to cherish his memory: his son, Kyle Browne, daughter-in-law Jennifer, his granddaughters; Madison and Harper, his long-term companion, Ana Johnson, siblings; Tina Browne Sills, Ollievita Williams (Jeff), Poulinia Browne-Lipscomb, Clinton Browne (Taneesha), Michael Browne, and his half-sister Diana Hamlet-Dennis, in addition to his beloved nieces and nephews and a host of cousins and friends.

The following was Juney's Easter piece at John Wesley Church on South Avenue in Bridgeton when he was five years old. He recited it perfectly.

"Just one flower to help me say, I'm very glad you came today."

He will be missed.
