Leon James Henry Sr. "Captain" 82 years old of Vineland, New Jersey passed away peacefully on March 22, 2021, at Inspira Hospital in
Vineland.
Leon James Henry Sr. "Captain" was born in Crisfield, Maryland to the late Edward Henry and Inderea Lampkin on September 12, 1938. He moved to, and attended Maurice Township Middle School in Maurice River, NJ, and later attended and graduated from Memorial High School in Millville, NJ. After graduating high school, Leon enlisted into the United States Marine Corps (September 7, 1956) where he served as an Armor Crewman during the Vietnam War. As a young marine and veteran of the Vietnam War, Leon united in holy matrimony (December 16, 1961) to Audrey Mae Green of Vineland, NJ. This union of 39 years was blessed with nine children. After fulfilling his enlistment obligations, Leon received an 'Honorable Discharge' from the United States Marine Corps and became a member of the New Jersey Army National Guard. While serving in the New Jersey Army National Guard, Leon was employed more than 20 years by Wheaton's Glass in Millville. Following Wheaton's Glass, Leon was employed as a Direct Support Professional with Woodbine Developmental Center for nine years.
Leon was remarried to Emma Jean Norris in March 2000 and remained until her death in April 2016.
Captain was a member of the VFW, Post #6108, where he held the position of Post Senior Vice Commander from 1992-1993. He was a member of SOAR Church in Woodbine, NJ where he served on the Deacon Board. Captain had a love for spending time with his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren, cooking, sports, and smoking cigars, Oorah!
Leon is preceded in death by his second wife Emma Henry, siblings Shirley Rowe, Alfonso Henry, Frank Henry, and his daughter Gertrude
Badger.
Leon is survived by his former wife, Audrey Mae Green, his children Vernon Green, Alisa Terrell, Simone Henry-Lewis, Damita Thorne,
Amita Dunbar, Audrey Lloyd, Leon J. Henry Jr., Deon D. Henry, Sr., and Mark Henry Sr., as well as, several sons and daughters in law; his
siblings Jessie Stevens, Cindy Sanders, Barbara Jones, Marie Wilson, Sharyl Battle, and Linda Henry, 28 Grandchildren, 43 Great-Grandchildren, and over 40 nieces and nephews. SEMPER FIDELIS, CAPTAIN!
