Leroy W. Washington's Obituary

Le'Roy W. Washington, fondly known as Sonny or Uncle Le'Roy, passed away peacefully on April 27, 2025, at Inspira Hospital in Vineland, NJ. He was born on February 13, 1947, in New York City to the late Florethea Washington. He grew up in the Bronx and obtained his GED while attending school there.

Le'Roy was blessed with two sons, Michael and Tyrone Washington. His life took a beautiful turn in the fall of 1976 when he met his soul mate Jacquelyn Spencer. Their love was profound, a bond that spanned more than 4 decades and transcended a lifetime.

As a dedicated and hardworking man, Le'Roy explored various jobs before discovering his true passion in construction. He took pride in the buildings and structures he helped shape across New York and Connecticut retiring from a Papajohn Company in Norwalk, CT. No matter where life took him the Bronx remained close to his heart, a place where he was raised with love by his mother and his late stepfather, James Thomas.

Le'Roy had a deep love for his tools, treasuring the craft and skill they allowed him to build with. He took pride in ensuring those around him never went hungry, always making sure there was food to share. His generosity, warmth, and unwavering care were felt by everyone who knew him.

He found joy in the simple pleasures of life like watching his favorite cowboy movies, sitting outback on the screened in porch, listening to the radio while tuning into baseball games or church sermons. These quiet moments brought him peace and filled his days with reflection and comfort.

As an unwavering fan of the New York Giants and Yankees, he cheered them on regardless of the outcome. Beyond sports, his greatest joy was found in the presence of children whom he adored and generously offered advice to. He shaped their lives with wisdom and warmth.

Le'Roy's warmth, wisdom, and unwavering love will be deeply missed but his spirit will forever remain in the hearts of those he touched.

He leaves behind a legacy of love and cherished memories with his beloved life partner Jackie Spencer, his sons: Michael Washington (Marie-Josee) of Slingerlands, NY, Tyrone Washington of the Bronx, NY, grandchildren: Jordan Washington of Georgia, Andre Washington and Michaela Washington of Slingerlands, NY, great grandson Roman Washington of Georgia, aunt Estelle Johnson (Milton) of Stockton, CA, godchildren: Christopher Pitts, Minister Dwayne Parker, Jr., Malaysia Horn, Usir Pemberton, along with a host of nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews and loved ones who held a special place in his heart.

Le'Roy is preceded in death by his mother Florethea Thompson, stepfather James Thomas, sister Robin Thomas, brother Joseph Washington, godson Troy Pemberton.
