December 6, 1937 – August 31, 2021
Lorraine Laura Young went home to be with the Lord on August 31, 2021. She was born on December 6,
1937, in Tappahannock, Virginia to the late Esther Henrietta Bundy and Willard Oliver Gatewood.
Lorraine was a loving wife to her late husband Edward Jimmy Young for forty-four years. They were wed
on February 23, 1957 and from this union seven daughters were born.
Lovingly known as "Sissy" to family and friends, Lorraine and was the second eldest of seven siblings.
Having been baptized at an early age, she was steadfast in her spiritual faith which guided her and the
family through life's many challenges.
Some of her favorite pastimes included listening to gospel music, shopping at Macy's, painting, playing
board games and dancing at family functions. She was reserved outside of the home but had a powerful
presence with family members. Her favorite quote was "If you're going to do something, do it right the
first time".
She was selfless and a Mama Bear when it concerned her children and always went above and beyond

missed by all who knew and loved her.
Lorraine was predeceased by her husband; Edward Jimmy Young, brothers; Edward Thomas Bowens,
