Luther Carl Bentley, born December 16, 1958, in Salem, New Jersey, to the late Ellen Beatrice Moore-Bentley and the late Clarence Bentley, Sr., passed away on June 18, 2026. to join the Lord. He was the middle child between Clarence Bentley, Jr., and Tyrone Bentley (d. 2024).

Affectionately known as Carl, C-Note, and Carl-Buckle, he was a man of wit, humor, kindness, and charm whose presence brought joy to all who knew him. Carl Bentley’s younger years were spent in Salem, New Jersey. He attended the Salem public school system until his family relocated to Vineland, New Jersey. In Vineland, Carl Bentley excelled in his love of sports, particularly basketball, football, and swimming. He was also well-known for his carpentry skills acquired during his high school years, which he continued to develop throughout his life.

Carl Bentley was characterized by his smooth personality and easygoing nature. He attended Vineland public schools during this period and graduated from Vineland High School in 1977. A true ladies’ man, C-Note carried himself with confidence, style, and a cool demeanor that made him unforgettable.

A devout Christian, Carl Bentley dedicated his life to Jesus Christ and was a faithful member of Haven United Methodist Church. He actively participated in the United Methodist Men, the "Haven Sons of Thunder" men’s choir, attended Bible Studies, and served on the Board of Trustees.

Luther Carl Bentley enlisted in the United States Navy, where he dedicated his life to serving his country and achieving several promotions throughout his military career. He was honorably discharged in 1979. Luther, served in the U.S. Navy as an aviation ordnanceman airman apprentice, specializing in aircraft weapons systems. Despite the challenges he faced, he courageously navigated them throughout the remainder of his life.

After retiring from active military service, Carl found fulfillment in working with his hands. He often collaborated with his brothers, Clarence and Tyrone, affectionately known as “The Bentley Boys,” under the guidance of their uncles, Jr. and Dan. Their shared interests included renovations, painting, lawn care, and carpentry. Carl cherished staying busy.

One of the greatest blessings in Carl’s life was the birth of his only child, his beloved son and best friend, Anthony Denby. Their bond was deeply rooted in their unique relationship as a father and son, as well as their shared passion for the Philadelphia Eagles. Over the years, their bond grew stronger through faith, love, and football.

Carl also held a special place in his heart for his grandchildren, Thomas Smith, Anthony Denby-Jones, and Samiyah Green, whom he adored dearly. He cherished spending time with his family and attending church services. Until the arrival of his grandchildren, Carl was an active uncle, known for family road trips in the van, beach days in Asbury Park and North Carolina, and backyard barbecues. He was also renowned for teaching the children how to drive, experiences that remain particularly memorable. A skillful driver, Carl enjoyed driving, exploring new places, visiting friends and relatives, and embarking on road trips.

Regardless of his moniker, Luther, Carl, C-Note, or Carl-Buckle, Carl possessed an unwavering passion for adventure. His unwavering devotion to God and his family was a constant source of inspiration.

Luther was proceeded in death by his mother, father, sister Sherry, and bother Tyrone.

Carl’s passing leaves behind a legacy of love, resilience, and cherished memories. He is survived by his only child and closest friend, Anthony Denby, and his grandchildren, Thomas Smith, Anthony Denby-Jones, and Samiyah Green. His siblings include his bother, Rev. Clarence Bentley (Jennifer), Deborah Bentley (Tyrone, deceased), several bonus siblings, his Godmother and Aunt, Marcella Bartley, several nieces and nephews, including a special niece, Kareema Bentley, who assisted his son, Anthony, in his care. He is also survived by numerous cousins, friends, his Haven Church family, and military comrades.
