Mattie D Evans's Obituary

Mattie D. Evans was born February 15, 1940 in Jacksonville, Georgia to the late Tommie and Estella McCrimmon- Clark. She departed this life peacefully in her home on Monday, April 05, 2021.

Mattie moved to Bridgeton New Jersey in 1958, where she would reside until God called her home. She was an active member in her church for many years. Mattie was the biggest blessing to many families as she would meet children and take them for weekends skating, bowling and even to church. Mattie was a member of Glassboro church of God under the leadership of Reverend Robert Burroughs, you knew if she missed a service something had to be wrong, because come Sunday morning she was ready flashy and fly with her big church hats. Mattie enjoyed shopping, listening to her gospel music, spending time with her sisters, son, daughter in law and spoiling her grandchildren.

For Many years Mattie worked as a home health aide. She enjoyed this profession and even when her body started to slow down, she did not quit. There was never a time you seen her in pants not even when working. She would wear her scrub jacket and a jean skirt. Her son would often tell her mom take that skirt off get comfortable, of course if you knew her you know she refused. Let us not forget how she had to have her Gerry curl nice and tight in her younger years and her braids the same as she got older. You would never catch her without her hair done.

Mattie leaves to cherish her memories; a lifetime friend, Deacon Roscoe Lewis, a son James Evans Jr. (Dottie) of Woodstown, a grandson James Evans III of Woodstown, a granddaughter Ni'Asia Evans (Warren) of Vineland, three great grandchildren, Jai'Yon, Warren and Sanaa, three bonus great grandchildren, five sisters, Sallie Broughton, Annie Mae Johnson, Catherine Spann, Quinell Haughebrook and Borrnell Littleton all of Bridgeton, two goddaughters Monica Lewis and Marian King, and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Mattie was preceded in death by her parents Tommie and Estella McCrimmon- Clark, her daughter Denise Evans, two brothers Harry and Tommie Clark, a special sister-in-law Helen Clark, A special brother-in-law and former pastor Joe Broughton and two close cousins Regina and Bruce Evans.
