Nancy B Clarke's Obituary

Nancy B. Clarke, affectionately known as "Sister" was born on April 18, 1943 in Hopkins, South Carolina.  She was the first born to the late Richard and Mamie Jamison.  She departed this life peacefully at the age of 80 at Jefferson Washington Township Hospital on February 27, 2024.

At an early age, Nancy was baptized and joined Mt. Calvary Baptist Church under the pastoral guidance of Reverend John J. McCree.  She was a faithful and active member of Mt. Calvary Baptist Church, until the time of her illness in 1989, where she was a long-time, Sunday School Teacher, sang in the church choir and participated in other church activities as  needed.

Nancy's educational background began in the public schools of   Swedesboro, New Jersey.  When Nancy entered high school, she attended Swedesboro High School, becoming the Class Secretary (all four years), was a member of the National Honor Society and was on Student Council.  She graduated Swedesboro High School in 1961.  Later in life, Nancy furthered her education by attending Gloucester County Community College (now known as Rowan College of South Jersey) where she received an Associate's degree, then continuing on from there to receiving her Bachelor's degree in education from Glassboro State College (now known as Rowan University).  It was then that she began her career as an educator – first, by substitute teaching and thereafter became employed by the Oldmans Township School District teaching 3rd and 5th grade students.  Nancy ended her teaching career there in December 1989,        following her illness.  Nancy had a strong passion for education which she instilled in her daughters, her students and even her grandchildren.  She always stressed the importance of a good education.

It was during Nancy's time in high school that she met and married her high school sweetheart, James Howard Clarke.  James and Nancy married on December 15, 1961 and from that union was born their two daughters, Tanya Michelle and Lori Ann.  This union lasted for 25 years until James' passing in June 1986.

In addition to being a devoted mother, some of Nancy's other passions  included cooking, shopping and watching her favorite TV programs, such as The Family Feud, hosted by Steve Harvey every night.  In addition, she loved baseball and was an avid Kansas City Chiefs fan where she always liked to "trash talk" to others about those Philadelphia Eagles until the very end.  Nancy also enjoyed traveling with family until recent years when that proved to be challenging.  It should also be noted that she also enjoyed and looked forward to when the deacons and deaconesses from Mt. Calvary came to her home for monthly communion and fellowship, closing by singing one of her favorite church hymns.  Whenever you saw Nancy, she always had a smile on her face that could light up a room.  She never  questioned the Lord throughout her illness, but, instead, always maintained her strong determination and faith to help her persevere.

She leaves to cherish her memories daughters, Tanya Michelle Clarke-Hamilton and Lori Ann Clarke-Ratliff (Gregory); sister, Bessie Stewart; brother Isaac Jamison; sister, Ruth Hawkins; brother, Fred Jamison; brother, Lawrence Jamison; grandchildren, Ciarra Hamilton, Chanell  Hamilton and Camera Hamilton (Johnnie IV); great-grandchildren, Logan and Johnnie V; and a host of other sorrowing relatives and friends to mourn her passing.

Nancy was preceded in death by her husband, James Howard Clarke.
