Nelson
May 17, 1948 – September 20, 2021
As penned in the lyrics of the late Michael Jackson, "Like a comet sailing across the evening sky, gone too soon" These are the same sentiments we express today.
PALTY IGNATIUS NELSON
affectionately known as "PEAGO" and "RED PATRICK" was born to the late Alvin Nelson and Jane-Ann (Raymond) Nelson on May 17, 1948, in Golden River St. Catherine, Jamaica. He was the fourth child for his mother and the second for his father.
Palty grew up in the district of Golden River, Above Rocks in St. Catherine Jamaica, and received his formal education at the Golden River Basic School. He then transitioned to St. Mary's All Age School, where he completed the remainder of his studies in the ninth grade. Upon completing school he sought employment. His first job was at Purity Bakery where he worked for many years.
Palty traveled to the United States on the Farm Workers Program before permanently settling in New Jersey in the early 1970. He would return to visit the family in Jamaica every year, as he was a family oriented man and loved his family dearly. However he had a special love for his niece Michelle, who was his favorite.
Palty met the love of his life Sharon Lewis on January of 1994 and was united in Holy Matrimony on December 3, 2003. There they remained each other confidant until his demise.
Palty was employed at a number of places before his subsequent illness and retirement. Places include: Bridgeton Dye and Finish, Clement Pappas for 16 years and finally retiring from Kintock Groups as a van driver after 20 years of service.
Palty was a member of The New Horizon Men's Club here in Bridgeton for many years, who always honor the Mothers of the community for their exemplified work in the community at their annual Mother's day Gala. Mr. Nelson always sells the most tickets for the event, thus acquiring the name "The Main Ticket Man". He also would organize bus trips to gain revenue for the Mother's Day gala. He also loved to cook and for many years was a faithful volunteer Firefighter at the Gouldtown Fire Station #15.
Palsy's
passionate pastime was to attend various house parties and frequent all the race-tracks in New Jersey, Delaware and Pennsylvania with his best friend Walter Patrick White (Black Patrick). You can always find the two sitting at a card table gambling till the wee hours of the morning, sometimes it lasted from Friday evening to Sunday night, especially if they were winning. He also like to try his hand
at the lottery waiting for the big win.
Palty was diagnosed with lung cancer in 2017 and after a brave and courageous fight succumb to it on September 20, 2021 at 11:44AM, with his faithful and loving partner holding his hands.
He leave to cherish his memory Wife Sharon (Lewis) Nelson who was his tower of strength during his illness, and we know that even though it was God that had kept him. If it wasn't for her he would have died long time ago. And a host of Nieces, Nephews, Cousins and friends.
He is predeceased by his parents Alvin and Jane –Ann Nelson, Brother Thomas Nelson and Sister Hermine Nelson.
Continue to rest in peace PALTY and may perpetual light shine upon you. We love you well but Jesus loves you best.
