Raymond "Mr Mover" Wharton's Obituary

Raymond Wharton was born August 17, 1954, in Bridgeton, NJ to the late Emory, Sr. and Beatrice Wharton. To many he was "Money Wharton" or "Mr. Mover", to his close family members he was simply "Baby."


Raymond married his wife of 38 years, Willa in 1986 and was a lifelong residence of Bridgeton and was a member of Union Baptist Temple. As a young boy he was a member of the Red Circle. As an adult he served on the usher board and was an active participant in the music ministry, singing with Manpower and The South Jersey Community Male Chorus.


Raymond was affiliated with Emmanuel Lodge #17 F.&.A.M. His favorite biblical scriptures was Acts 17:28a For in him we live, and move and have our being;


Raymond has a wealth of employment opportunities in South Jersey and surrounding areas. He belonged to Local 172, Local 222 and Local 228. He worked for the Salem Nuclear Power Plant, South Jersey Asphalt and Paving, National Freight Trucking, Wheaton Glass, Hunts Foods and Scott Paper Company


In 1990 he started his own business, Wharton's Mr. Mover Moving and Delivery Service. He gave employment opportunities to countless community members and became a mentor and role model for numerous young men in the area. He also began a snow removal company, providing service to many churches, businesses and private residence. Through the years Raymond received many awards and commendations for his civic and business accomplishments from the NAACP, the City of Bridgeton, the City of Vineland and the City of Millville. He will always be remembered for his humor, his wit and his infectious smile.


He leaves the cherish his precious memories a loving and devoted Wife Willa, two Sisters: Arlene Dawson, Betty Wharton, one Son Staley Whaley, one Grandson Nihym Shareef, one Uncle Roland C. Wharton, two Sisters-in-law: Betty Jackson of Hartford, CT, Lenora Smith of Atlanta, GA, special friends: Bill Gould, Clinton Harris, George Venney, Rodger H. Deveaux, and Robert chestnut.


Raymond was predeceased by his parents Emory, Sr. and Beatrice Wharton, one brother Emory Wharton, Jr., two sisters-in-law: Alberta Holmes, Ida Killiebrew, one brother-in-law Thomas Killiebrew.
